Full story: The Deming Headlight

Can Luna County afford leaders who treat science as if it were a political opponent? Steve Pearce, running for his old seat in our district, is on the record dismissing global warming as "crap" and claiming that it "cannot be validated." He made these statements on a campaign stop in Artesia to the multimedia news source Politico.

One more time. There was no scientific theory or consensus on a 'global cooling' and especially no 'forecast' of such.

OK, so it's established that LessFact doesn't understand the definition of a lobbyist.
He's unable to define climate and disagrees with NASA on its definition.
He also doesn't know what a PoP forecast means.
He swears that forty is spelt with a U and well deserves the nickname, Mr Undoubtably Spelt Fourty.

Is this the type of person one would believe when talking about climate change?
I hardly think so.

So do we have to hear this FORTY more times? You seem to have to have the last word on this subject so here it is zymurgy.

That depends on how long it takes for Mr Undoubtably Spelt Fourty to give in to overwhelming fact that forty isn't spelt with a U.

Not yet, apparently.

No, this has nothing to do with the branch of chemistry dealing with fermentation, as in making wine, brewing, etc, but I catch your drift.:D

Fourty... as in 4... 0... as in... FOUR... OH... as in, one index hand without the thumb and a... ZERO....

like One past thirty nine... but not as in 39 minus one...

Could be One short of fourty one... or five more than thirty five...

As in... Ten plus thirty... like Seventy minus 30, or 70 subtract thirty...

like as in one hundred sixty divided by four... but not like in four divided by 160...

Critic... bah... You missed the point and your missing the reason why its kept out there in front of the other poster and in their face to pi$$ them off. They were wrong. They were dragged out about it. They refused to acknowledge they were wrong. They continue to acknowledge that a simple word misspelled was wrong even when shown the correct spelling. Most of us are human and can admit a mistake... this poster hum-hawing about global-climate-weather change... Well there's a narcassist personality and then there is an all out full blown NARCASSIST...

Them types usually are pretty far on the left side of the political spectrum, registered as a Democrat, and unmovable on anything or any issue they take odds with.

I voted for Pearce today. Why? Because I believe global warming is nothing more than a money grabbing greedy piece of propaganda that even if true (something about the ice caps melting), the cycle is on, the world cannot stop it and what will be is going to be. Steve Pearce at least in my mind knows this.

Sure the world's population can slow it down. The population can do other things to slow it, but its going to happen come he11 or high water and it may freeze us to death or burn us up. By the time it does, my dead a$$ body won't care.

Recognize those who want to get into your wallet. Recognize why they want to do it.If you think that giving them money is your answer... well... a fool and his money are soon parted.

Stop worrying about the big stuff. Take care of your here and now. It nice outside today... I think I'll drink some fermented hops and hope that when they were cooked, it didn't contribute too dang much to the global warming BS...

Earthling, what is "spelt"????? Could you have meant to type 'spelled'? If not, then you should shut up about another person's misspelling of a word in their post. If you did mean to use that word, you are no better off than mister forty. STFU!

Actually, spelt is the past tense of spell commonly used in the UK. As Dirtling is a UK citizen living in Spain, it is not 'wrong' for him to spell it that way.
http://tinyurl.com/28kon2q

Modern and somewhat regional usage. Just as 'forty' is a modern revision of the original 'fourty'. I'm sure that spelling checkers will eventually 'unify' the language based on the origin of the most popular word processor.

The practice of lexicography to take 'popular mispellings' and make them 'official' is making for a very irregular spelling. That said, debating these 'revisions' is meaningless as it is the ultimate 'argument by popularity'.

I agree that he should STFU as his program of heckling is not useful and he is somewhat hypocritical.

Spelt is an English word with two different meanings.
It is a wheat, Triticum aestivum spelta, native to southern Europe and western Asia, used chiefly for livestock feed.
Or:
A past tense and a past participle of the verb, spell.

I'm happy to know that you bothered to check, I'm reminded of an earlier post you made:

I am baffled by the brilliance of your boundless intellect. It is not often one has such a vast and dazzling ability to unleash English grammar with so much maturity and decorum. Thank you for your admonishment forty times over. You are right. Your answer was most suitable. Your point was correct and favorable on every level. I feel restored, now that I know the proper spelling of forty. OK.... The subject was on global warming being dismissed as ''crap''.

That is YOUR distorted claim. Mine was that I learned 'fourty' as the correct english spelling in 60's Ontario with both my teachers and the dictionary of the time listing 'forty' as an american corruption similar to or part of those perpetrated by Noah Webster to 'differentiate' American English.

And I have agreed that with modern spell checkers distributed by MS word and others using the 'forty' as the correct variation, the currrent 'popular' spelling is the irregular one.

And that my friends is today English lesson. Tune in again next week when "LessHypeMoreFact" will point out the subtle differences between split infinitives and the less common compound split infinitive. At which point Earthling will exclaim, "To easily excel, one must study the spelling of the word, Fourty!" As well global warning lie will say, "Brilliant, boundless, intellect dazzles and baffles with mature decorum." Itís all here on Topix!

Dirtling, throws dirt to dirty an issue. dirtling is a liar, altho that trait is one of his lesser sins.

From Sourcewatch:

SPPI's Chief Scientific Advisor, Willie Soon, has clear corporate connections with the energy industry. In 2003, He authored a study..... called Reconstructing Climatic and Environmental Changes of the Past 1,000 Years: A Reappraisal..... According to a report in the Seattle Post Intelligencer, The research was underwritten by the American Petroleum Institute, the trade association of the world's largest oil companies. They also reported that 'two of the five authors are scientists who have been linked to the coal industry and have received support from the ExxonMobil Foundation', whilst a further two of the authors are affiliated with the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and are 'senior scientists' with Washington-based organization the George C Marshall Institute, which received support from ExxonMobil Corp.

Soon has close links with the George C Marshall Institute, having served on the Instituteís Science Advisory Board. Both the SPPI and the Marshall Institute put vast amounts of energy and resources into denying human involvement in climate change.

In 2004, Soon was paid $60,000 as the Frontier of Freedom's highest paid independent contractor for professional services.....

The Union of Concerned Scientists in 2007, accused ExxonMobil "of funneling $16 million to advocacy groups over a seven-year period in an effort to 'confuse the public on global warming science'".

Willie Soon is also Science Director for Tech Central Station (TCS)..... The TCS is published by prominent Washington "public affairs" firm, the DCI Group..... specialises in 'P.R., lobbying.....Lobbying firms game is to dominate the entire intellectual environment in which officials make policy decisions.....

Soon, paid by the oil industry has testified in national hearings on AGW. Soon is a lobbyist.

dirtling is a liar & much worse, which I have documented scores of times on topix AGW forums.

I personally think that soon should have hired complete strangers who knew nothing about the issues at hand. In fact it would have been better had they not be scientist at all. And why would anyone hire scientists that were somehow linked to coal or petroleum? Doesnít he know that probably means theyíve been working in the industry for a long time and have established contacts throughout the years? They would be a worthless pick for sure. Nope. I think lion tamers would make perfect candidates.
