C3Atlanta I agree with you 1/2 way. The Rupublicans suck but the other 1/2 of the argument is the Democrats suck too. The Republicans aren't devils and the Dems angels. The fact is the people have NO representation. We have no where to turn. Businesses have representation, Unions have representation, health insurance companies have representation, but the little man out here going to work everyday, the average joe, we have no one. You pose a great argument against conservatives but the argument is just as strong against the liberals. It's all a bunch of bull designed to pit us against one another. Once they divide us and get us fighting they do as they please and that is what has been happening for over 20 or 30 years.

Debra- I agree.

Both parties are struggling. I made that statement early on, however to be more precise, I know that both parties are ridiculous right now. To say that Georgia even has a Democratic Party, is mostly laughable. The party is in shambles. In fact, a Democrat front-runner these days, is almost literally an independent because they get no help from the central Georgia Democratic Party, thats for sure.

On that note, my point is change. We have to look outside the box, and unfortunately the folks that run as Democrats, typically do it not for party interest, but because its the only way to get past the incumbent. No other party in Georgia can get past a primary or actual election because they don't have the party recognition.

What we do know, is that Republicans have controlled the state for 8 years, and Roswell for ??? years? It's time to seek out a change, ad frankly I don't mind if the change agent is named the Speckled Hen Party, provided we can get rid of the idea that the local party is somehow connected to a National Ideal. As they say, " All politics is local." Ours certainly is and its time to change it...

If we had a good candidate running as a Republican, fine, but we don't. We only have more of the same, Price, Price and Price.

Let's dump the Republican Tea Party Machine in the Chattahoochee and play ball locally. It's time the national machine stops influencing behavior at the City Hall.

The party affiliation does not matter to me either, and I sure would like to see some fresh faces on the trail. An attractive option would be to have not just a two party system but a four party system, right now the Ds and Rs really have no competition. And I am sure the Ds and Rs will fight tooth and nail to keep it that way. They are getting rich on our pain. They all disgust me. I can't stomach pulling that lever and all I get for it is their smiling faces on a post card and a bunch of lies and empty promises. And here is another little nugget of info, politicians are just like trial attorneys, they argue all day and go to dinner together in the evening. They've got it all sewn up.

C3 I do not think it is fair to give the credit for the schools in Roswell doing well to Fulton County when many of the schools in Fulton County are not doing well. And I read on the City website that they had plans to build more sidewalks and bike lanes with some of the tarp money.

The schools in Fulton that are not doing well have teachers that can't be fired and parents that probably can't speak English or speak very little. There are behavior problems and discipline problems that are not addressed. The problem with schools has nothing to do with money or elected officials. It is a mix of committed school personnel, parents and students.

June, I disagree. First I dont think that you can quantitatively differintiate between the teachers and administrators in Roswell and in Fulton in general. Also if you drive by any apartment complex in Roswell when kids are waiting for the school bus you could probably say that thier parents first language was not English.

Zack how nice to have a disagreement with someone that is not being abusive or insulting! What are your thoughts on this: You may notice at Charter schools all children do very very well. There is a good reason for that. The teachers are contracted on a yearly basis and they can be fired. Also, there is very little bus service; parents have to drive the child to school. There is no free lunch or free breakfast. There are strict standards regarding discipline. Usually there are mandatory volunteer hours for parents and let's not forget the beloved uniform. Couple that with the fact that Charters get about 70% of the funding a regular public school gets and the fact that Charters can go out of business if they aren't keeping their "customers" happy.

Is it just me or does the decline in the entire Atlanta Metro area and the state of Georgia inversely track the increase in the number of Republicans elected to office?

Its not just you Roger...

Penny- As much as I hate to admit it, I laughed at your comment- I wonder if that makes me a xenophobe or a racist?

Frightfully, the Hispanic gangs that are getting more numerous by the moment. The folks that had jobs and have no more work to do have left. Many of the illegals left behind, including the violent Asian gangs are here, are selling drugs, committing violent robberies, etc...

We truly do need to be worried about the impact a person who is illegal, has no identity according to US records, has on our community. IF you have no US identity and are not traceable, then you live outside of the US law. When you committ a crime you can return to your host country without prosecution, leaving behind terror and fear, which creates more xenophobia (fear of foriegn nationals).

Though your comment made me laugh, it's highlights a serious point just the same. Incidentally, I don't remember having the Illegal immigration problems to this magnitude prior to 2002.

Also, we should demand that the news media cover the crime north of 285 instead of always south of it...A person might think there is rarely violent crime in Roswell, Alpharetta, or Buckhead if they knew nothing other than what local media tells them.

Denise,

Good list. At least 90% of those were heterosexual scandals involving legally aged women. They also didn't have an anti-women, or anti-gay agenda. 80% of the Republicans I named, were involved in gay-sex scandals while they were trying to pass Anti-Gay legislation, which to me is particularly disturbing. Quite a different thing, altogether.

Should I go on with more Republican sex-scandals...or should we just leave it at that, because I didn't get into the heterosexual things all that much or the story or where a Gay Escort, Jeff Gannon, who faked being a Reporter, was allowed to stay in the White House with President Bush and was best buddies with Karl Rove, pushing anti-gay agendas on Fox News...OH yea, and was embrawled in helping to out Valerie Plame, a CIA undercover operative. Nothing like an Anti-Gay agenda to embolden the Republican party, again and again, meanwhile being gay themselves.

Just the same- good list.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Taurus

There are powerful forces at work in a relationship today, and they'll have quite an impact on you. If you're with that special person in your life, don't be surprised if there's a lot of sexual tension between you that manifests as irritation and bad temper. You'll probably have a huge row and then have a very enjoyable time making it up.
