At this point Maria Holly, should be thankful, Lubbock, and its citizens,Its taxpayer wanmt to even maintain a Holly Memorial at all. Her residual checks, are more capital/Income, than most citizens in Lubbock have in a Lifetime.Thre must be a sponsor out there, somewhere, hat can absord these Minimal costs to remember a Great Co founder of Modern Pop & rock roll music. say like, Mr. paul mccartney, who owns the holly music catalog. This is a case of someone trying to make extra money.....Mrs. Holly, in a bid to cointinue to profit from her dead husbands name, has only managed to remove his memory from the minds of youngsters who will never know him. This has not "protected" her husbands name but rather helped his memory to fade into nothingness sooner. Good Job Mrs Holly!

I agree with Maria Holly. Lubbock does use the Buddy Holly name to attract attention to various venues. Who profits from these venues? I doubt if the situation involved a loved one of yours, that you would feel as generous. Buddy Holly's name will not fade simply because Lubbock can no longer profit from using his name. He was not popular for being born in Lubbock, he was popular and will remain so due to his talent.

I really appreciate the legacy of Buddy Holly. Lubbock is honored to have such a great talented innovator. However, at what point will the people of Lubbock remember the "living" talented musicians it has now? Buddy has been gone for a long time now. But there are, even now, many writing, performing, and working musicians who need your help. Name the streets and the market places after the love of "live" music. And when the time comes, Buddy will come home to Lubbock.

Tinker is a true hero, and Lubbock is just trying to keep Buddy's name and music alive. Its not like they are trying to make money off the fact he was from here. Famous people are known where they are from, and the town supports that person, I think the city of Lubbock has done nothing wrong...

love ya tink, hope you are better...

As hard as Maria Elena Holly is to get along with (and she is), the City of Lubbock should be ashamed that they didn't fork out the $6500 to this woman. It's obvious she is greedy and trying to get all the money she can out of the estate before it becomes public domain; however, Lubbock, after years of ignoring how amazing Buddy truly was, finally jumped on the so-called band-wagon and now they just look cheap! Seriousl cheap!!! It's obvious the City of Lubbock has profited from his name! Again, Lubbock Texas is proud of and obviously profits from the memory of Buddy Holly. BUT!!! Bottom line....it's all about the music and the muse. His sweet family still lives here and THEY (above all) deserve the opportunity to celebrate their brother/uncle. Maria needs to get over herself and Lubbock needs to learn to give what is due! Buddy was amazing and we didn't appreciate him nearly enough! Even though it took Lubbock way too long to acknowledge his talent, this is where it started and we should celebrate all his contributions! AND WE WANT TO!!! It's always about the almighty dollar!!! How about just a good old pat on the back and a great party? Let's celebrate the man and his music!!! Don Caldwell and Maria Elena have plenty of kudos and money! You two need to kiss on the lips and make nice! You're cramping everybody else's style! Buddy deserves a party. His family deserves a party. His adoring fans deserve a party! Stop fighting over money and let's celebrate the man and his music! You can't tell me that if Buddy were alive he would not be here in Lubbock, Texas finally enjoying the fruits of his labor and basking in the love that we obviously have for him and his music!

PLEASE GET RID OF THE PERSONALITIES AND MAKE A (CONSISTENT) BUDDY HOLLY CELEBRATION HAPPEN! IT CAN'T BE THAT DIFFICULT!

I live in East Texas and never really thought much about Maria Elena Holly. But now she is looking like a witch on local TV with the Peggy Sue book coming out and all. Then I hear on the news about her losing the Walk of Fame and something else big out there that was named after her husband... all because she wanted MONEY. Also saw her on the news and she came off pretty "witchy." (My spelling may be a little off!) In my day... hers too... we'd call that a plain old gold digger.
Also, I now wonder how she has treated Buddy's family? It's none of my business, but I wonder if the people actually responsible for Buddy Holly got anything at all from his estate?
It's a shame old Buddy... with every girl in the country in love with him... couldn't have found a girl with a sweeter disposition than Miss Maria Elena!

Well, at least Tinker Carlen lives on in Lubbock along with Jack Neal and Susan Grisanti. There are many fine musicians in Lubbock that will never be famous but continue to try to entertain their fans, like the band "Just us." They play their music and still find time to visit with their fans. Thanks to Tinker for introducing us to Gary Nix, Lonnie Kuss, Brent Jackson, and Briand Ashburn. These guys know where Lubbock music REALLY cme from and only want to keep the good music coming

Let us all jump on the "Bash Maria Holly" bandwagon. Do it the same way that Lubbock did to Buddy Holly when he was still alive and dared to play that "Devil Rock & Roll" music. NO ONE from the Holly family owes Lubbock anything! Buddy Holly was not always the beloved son of Lubbock. If you want to speak of greed, talk about how Lubbock felt much better about embracing Buddy Holly in death rather than in life.

maria is a golddigger, always was and always will be. she just wants to milk more and more money out of her couple month marriage to Buddy. She also remarried so how is she entitled to ANYTHING anyway? I think Lubbock needs to get the balls to take her money grubbing ass to court over this and end it once and for all, send her ass back to PR.

"kenyan monkey's" reply is a perfect example of how prejudice, racism and good ol' boy mentality still reigns supreme in Lubbock, TX. Your comments speak volumes about your intelligence. You should be ashamed of yourself and your comments.

OK: let's get to the facts.....Maria Elena was ALWAYS ignored and unwanted by the Holly family BECAUSE he met her in New York, fell in love and she was Puerto Rican......The racism in Lubbock against hispanics is overwhelming, in my eyes.....therefore, why should she cater to people who trashed her and treated her poorly....

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Capricorn

You'll have a fabulous time if you're longing to see what's on offer in the sales, especially if you want to buy yourself some new clothes or cosmetics. However, you won't pay much attention to how much you're spending, and may even deliberately avoid thinking about it. Do yourself a favor and don't go overboard if you can't afford it.
