This entire idea is insane! Take the most expensive area in the world and let bums move in. The bleedin' heart liberals just don't get it. Once you set up a place for them to live, they tend to hang out in the area. Just look at homeless shelters in other cities.

Set up a shelter out in the boonies so they don't hang around other humans. Sorry, the fact is most homeless bums are that way because of 1. Mental illness.
2. Drinking problems. 3 Drug problems 4. Bad choices in life or all the above.

Since the church is trying to create a condition that didn't exist before, let them put the title to the land and the church into an escrow account that anyone who is victimized by the 'carefully screened' men can attach in a court of law should there be a lawsuit. Put your rectory where your mouth is...

Has anyone considered the health issues posed by having the homeless sleeping in the church? Congregation and/or community members could potentially be exposed to a variety of problems, such as bed bugs (apparently very common these days)and/or head lice, whooping cough, TB, etc. I understand that one or more persons who were volunteer food servers at St. Vincent de Paul in San Rafael contracted whooping cough, which turned into pneumonia. Moreover, once the homeless are aware of the wealth of the community, it is certainly conceivable that a rash of burglaries (or worse!) could occur. The whole notion of bringing in homeless and/or mentally ill persons into a bucolic town is problematic, at best.

Most of the homeless who wandered into Marin have never paid rent in Marin. They came here for social services. Send them back to the counties where they came. Serve only the homeless who are actually Marin residents. Problem solved.

Downtown san rafael is being destroyed by homeless people from outside of marin. Every time i walk 4th street i see panhandlers, drunks, homeless with shopping carts, homeless urinating in alleys and between cars. I have been driving by the b st. soap kitchen for 10 years, 2 or 3 times a week i see police activity or a ambulance or a fist fight in that area. You would think the mayor and city council would want to put a end to this ongoing problem.

It appears to be a deliberate effort by some to lower property values with bums to the point where they can buy it up cheap. Either that or the so called officials are mentally ill and suffering with compassion disease, a condition that feeds on itself: the worse things get, the more compassion they feel which translates into more policies that destroy the community and thus it feeds on itself. I watched two old Blacks that hang out across from the theater casing cars up and down the side street, trying door handles and one of them actually entered a car and went through the glovebox.

CRIME HAS BEEN GOING UP VERY FAST IN THE LAST 2 OR 3 YEARS. THIS WAS A NICE SAFE TOWN 20 YEARS AGO. ALL OF MARIN HAS BEEN HIT BY SAN RAFAEL'S CRIME WAVE.

What a bunch of selfish people you are. I hope someday you are all homeless, and you get treated like the dirt on the bottom of someone's shoe. So much for Christian compassion.

The comments above are all an example of uneducated, misinformed people who call "bum" and make outrageous statements about something they know nothing about. Take a moment and actually find out about a program before you put your opinion out there. Ross would have had a blessing in this program, yet they chose to make an outlandish campaign in an attempt to once again keep anyone unlike themselves (ie rich and white) out of our town borders. I have lived here a long time and this is the most ashamed I have ever been of this community.

Truly a wonderful quote from a "PersonWithAHeart". More like a quote from a "MeanSpiritedHypocrite ".

First, Rossie, NOBODY said ANYTHING about skin color. As even Kanye West said recently, everybody is just too eager to play the race card. Put it away.

Second, people are allowed to associate with whom they choose. You don't get to tell people who their friends and associates are--they get to pick them.

Third, it is perfectly within any town's right to refuse a license for anyone to operate a hotel, particularly if they plan to do it in a building totally lacking normal hotel facilities.

Fourth, learn what it's like to live within decent society and follow the rules. Your attitude of "I want it my way now, and anyone who doesn't want to just give it to me must be racist" is simply childish. Grow up.

OOps, Rossie, someone did identify a potential thief by skin color. Still, it doesn't justify playing the race card.
