Our justice system fails to protect the 'common wealth' by ignoring its responsibility to remove criminals from the population. As a result, society in general cannot open itself in compassion to the truly needy. You can't blame a parent for wanting to protect their children. But you can blame the overzealous defenders of perpetrators who confuse the social causes of crime with excuses for crime.

No need to worry, they will all be going to Ross. I hear that Tiburon and Belvedere are going to "pitch in" as well.

Ross will be a much better place for them than Terra Linda. More places to hide during the day. More empty houses to break into while the occupants are at work.

This is idiocy at best. The Rev could give a dam about tge kids at the school. He assesses the participants for safety but won't fingerprint the before they go to a school grounds? What a crock.

Very sad, commenters 1 - 5. Is it really so terrible to host people, who are supervised and screened and BUSED in, one night a week in a church? Oh and by the way, all of the folks can go anywhere in the county (and anywhere else) already! I'm sure that these folks as well as others know that Terra Linda exists...

And in any event, as far as I can tell from the police info in the papers, the homeless are not the population committing the burglaries here in Marin -- that seems to mostly be youth and young adults of all kinds, from all parts of the county, and employees of home service firms. But if you are concerned, contact your local PD to find out what's up in your area.

I understand the concern of parents here, but please know that you are overreacting and fabricating things to be feared. My children both went to the JCC preschool, and once a week there were homeless men sheltered at the Reform Jewish Congregation in the same complex. The temple is also right next to a private Jewish Day School for grades K-8. There was never even a question about the safety of the kids. The two groups never saw each other, unless a congregant parent brought their family to help provide the evening meal. And those who did felt that this was an experience for their kids (and themselves) that had an immense positive impact on their understanding.

Why are people so fearful of the unknown -- what they think might happen versus what will actually occur -- if homeless individuals are housed in a church or synagogue for one night a week. Maybe some day you or someone you know will find themselves in a similar situation.

How about sheltering the illegals so that tax payer dollars aren't supporting them?

Why not screen the people who need shelter and find the ones who are a danger to society. Therefore, the scum get separated from the innocent. simple.

OMG !! What stone cold, heartless people. The kids are NOT even at the schools when the men would be there. btw, I think the Ross people got a 2 million fed grant (ie. the TARP) from the 'rest of us' to help them rebuild their platial Ross school.

John Galt would loves you Ross.

Some people say these "Homeless" people are from out of Marin. So where are they actually from? Are any of these people actually from Marin? It only matters financially if they are not from Marin. We cant afford to keep taking in strays, we have enough illegals to deal with. TL has 4 churches? I know of St Isabellas and the Presbatarian church across from Scottys, but where are these other churches? Would it make more sense to put these people in a church in the canal if there is one? Or deport the number of illegals in lieu of the homeless?

SWMarin of Mill Valley would like the people of other cities to 'host' homeless people next to a Montessori school. What planet are you on? Aldersgate is on a hilltop in a completely residential neighborhood, half a mile from the nearest store. Further, it abuts a children's park. We already have the occasional scum that wander around the mall making obscene remarks to 10 year old girls. We have the under-the-freeway sleepers downtown. What more do you want? If they can't live on $631 a month in Marin, they should move to Clearlake or learn how to steal jug wine.

Ross residents make me laugh. The church in San Anselmo will continue their program... across from Wade Thomas Elementary.... less than a mile from the proposed church in Ross. A mile makes a difference in Ross?
