Gated communities are totally ridiculous. Anyone with half a brain can get into them without any problem. So why the gates?

What they really are, are ghettos.

This is the way of life now on the island, and this is why your average working people are moving away. I grew up in St James and Nesconset was small homes and woods in the 50's now only for the New Found Rich! Very Sad! All these million dollar McMansions do nothing for the quality of life this island had years ago.

Every family needs a 6,135 square foot home right? This way they don't see each other.

What the article fails to tell you is that Stone Hill is located directly off of Jericho Tpke. Nothing like paying $3 mil for a house and having the cars whiz by at 55 MPH while you look at the vista of the Syosset Bowling Alley from your bedroom window. Boy that's living!

Really?

These people don't pay their fair share of property taxes to help support the school district?

They don't eat out and support local restaurants? They aren't eating Burger King wso you can thank they for the nice places that come to town.

They don't support the arts? Have a look around, the more cultured parts of our nation are where the $$ is.

Oh yeah, that Stone Hill is nice, I've drivern by there in amazement. If you want to tell your friends how to get there, the entrance is directly across the street from Wendy's and the bowling alley. HAHA $4 Mil and they're on Jericho Turnpike, now that just oozes class! They may have the shekels, but they have very little taste.

Also, the article fails to mention that many gates communities were started to have the "security" of not having to live near blacks, Jews, Catholics or other "undesireables". Have the changes that much or are the just using the price tag to affect the same result with using restrict codicels that would land them in court! Personally, I wouldn't want to live in a community that proudly touted its' ability to keep out the riff-raff. I thought that this stuff when out in the 1950's

Nobody has mentioned the absolute worst thing about these gated communities: Homeowner's Associations, which is essentially codephrase for "nosy old people with power delusions telling you what to do." Don't leave that car parked outside your garage overnight or you're getting a $250 fine, buddy!!

Americans are always exercising their freedom to keep the great unwashed away. I guess these multi million dollar homes will employ plenty of maids, and lawn workers to stimulate the trailer park community.

Next they'll be worried about being attacked or robbed from the air. How about a nice bomb proof bubble?

Just up the block from the trailer park. How quaint is that?
