Someone has to be accountable for this very special Dr's death.

I think that someone left the country. And I also think the police have not been exactly proactive in this case. Somethings going on here and it's not fair to his family that this guy is getting away with vehicular homicide.

He won't get away with it. He's still in the country and he will be held accountable, as will his Mommy for lying to hide him.

The low rate of prosecutions for hit and run crimes suggests it is viewed as "bad for business". Even when death and dismemberment is involved. Amazing.

Shouldn't his mother be prosecuted for with holding evidence in this case ? She knew right from the get go...that it was her son that was driving her car on the day that her car hit and killed Dr. Siegel.
In any case, it's nice to know that the detectives that were working this case finally got their guy !
Considering the fact that he was speeding, and knew darn well that he hit someone....and didn't bother to stop at all...he proceeded to think that he would never be caught for his irresponsible act of MURDER !
I hope he gets what he fully deserves....30 years in a cage ! Do any of you out there agree with me ???

Has anything been done since they found the kid. His mother should be arrested for obstructing justice. He was my doctor for about 17 years and I never met a doctor like him. He was one of a kind.I moved away so I don't get the local papers, but if this boy can just kill someone and run away he deserves to go to jail. God bless his wife and daughters and parents and siblings.

Last I heard, the killer's still in jail, unable to raise bail yet. He was arrested many months ago and plea negotiations are on-going. He'll probably get a few years which really sucks given the crime. No such luck yet with the mother but her time is coming. He was def. one of a kind, as a doctor as well as just a regular guy.

Buford-thank you for the information. Are you Buford's grandson?

The trial of the red-haired killer (he looks about 18-19) started a couple weeks ago in the Nassau County Court before Justice Alan Honoroff. His defense lawyer, Steven Scaring (he represented the Muttontown slave couple - great job, Steve, they're going away forever) is apparently contending that his client hit Dr. Siegel but didn't kill him. As is often done by desperate defendants and their lawyers, he claims that a "phantom" car did the killing. The Court would not consider Scaring's proposed plea deal of 2-6 years. The jury seems attentive and I hope they do the right thing.

Well, I was wrong. The killer got away with it. This jury did contain one imbecile who refused to convict our boy of manslaughter. The vote was 11-1. He was convicted on 11/7/08 of criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene. The max is 11 years but he'll probably get 3-7, not much more than he offered to serve before the trial. The sentencing is on 12/17/08 before Justice Honoroff.

I was thinking of Dr Jeffrey Siegel today, as I often do. He may not walk with us today, but his contribution to his field of medicine and to all who were lucky enough to know him goes on. I am one of those elucky people.
