My brother is really sick. His doctor is constantly giving him one prescription after another to try to help his pain. So, a RX of 30 pills ends up half used and of course are non-returnable. Or, a larger supply of a drug that has stopped being effective for him is wasted because they have to change his meds.

When this happens, does it really make sense to flush them? I think there needs to be some sort of program that takes these unused drugs and gets them into the hands of people who have prescribed the same drug but can't afford them. It seems like such a waste.

I'm sure many of the people who are selling Rx drugs came across the medicines through self, family. friends not using their entire Rx. It's not right that they are selling them for monetary gain and it's not safe. But if there were a drug recycling program, maybe with the pharmacies, where the partially used Rxs could be checked and reissued at a lower price to those who need them it would help with prescription drug pedaling.

You can return the unused meds to a pharmacy and they will dispose of them properly. You aren't supposed to flush them because it can get into the water supply.
