My grandmother lived on Gratiot about a block down across from the mall...they used to take their poodles in for breakfast...steak and eggs on the weekends in the late 60's

Thinking back I remember that the section of I-696 between I-94 and I-75 opened to traffic in very late 1978 or early 1979. The section beyond I-75 opened in late 1988 or early 1989. I also remember that back in 1971 there was still 11 mile road entrance and exit ramps on I-94 (just like the ramps for 9, 10 and 12 mile roads). So the digging of the I-696 ditch in the Gratiot area must have started around 1971 or shortly after. Prior to the digging in that area (that split 11 mile to opposite sides of 696), the intersection of 11 mile and Gratiot looked completely different as far as where the actual corner was. Can't remember if the Suzie Q was on the actual corner back then.

I remember it in late 60s early 70s. Best fish n chips in the world. Lived around the corner on the corner of Allen and Maple behind the church.

I remember the chrome edges on the tables and the sparkly red vinyl booth seats! And the glass walls.

Probably 1962 or 63. I remember them building it, but not what was there before hand. Sorry! I loved working there - so many great memories!
