Well Everyone,
After careful consideration, I decided to buy a home in Richards Crossing. The home is already built and I expect to close between 2-3 weeks. I'm really excited! I've visited the area 6 times and have contacted a few residents. The ones I was able to reach all give great feedback on the area, builder and their homes.

As a former Kennedy employee I applaud Bill Kennedy and his partners for their contribution to the building industry. I have worked for several home builders in the Chicago market but not one compares to Kennedy Homes. I truly believe that Bill Kennedy and his partners will do whatever they can to get through this. I wish them the best.
As for all of you who are pending and hanging in limbo with the construction of your new home, hold tight, Mr. Kennedy is the type of man to turn his back. Good luck to you and keep faith....

My husband and I were so excited to see the way our house was coming along. When my husband called on a Monday to see what was going on, as Jose in Waterman was more than happy to help us in any way, we were unable to reach anyone. Then we found out that the office had been closed since the previous Friday. He tried contacting another lady, Donna, who we had also worked with and her phone was disconnected. A call to our subcontractor and his message stated that he no longer worked for Kennedy Homes.

What I find disturbing is that we have not heard anything from anyone at Kennedy Homes. Numerous calls have been put in and still no answer. You think that if they were such a great company to work for and treated everyone like family they would at least have the courtesy to contact those of us who are in production. Our house is drywalled and taped and we were supposed to be closing sometime near the end of March to the beginning of April.

Our excitement with getting this new house was so wonderful as we would have the room we wanted to raise our daughter. Then with no warning and not so much as a phone call (even from corporate offices) our excitement turned into despair, impatience, and fear of the unknown. I have realized that yelling and getting angry is not going to help the situation. What I realize is no matter how Kennedy Homes and their employees treated us when they were trying to sell us our home (which was very polite and wonderful to work with) I find the way they are handling this situation now is completely irresponsible and down right rude. If everyone is like "family" I would not go to any reunions.

We would like answers and they don't seem to have them. Hell a letter would be nice.

Krissy, we are also left waiting for an incomplete house,in Richards Crossing of Coal City. Through everything we were impressed with Kennedy's service and quality. But also like you we were not notified when our sales office closed. We left several messages at different numbers, and they did return our call promptly, but that was before their last batch of layoffs. According to our log the Waterman office was closed the weekend of February 15. Start keeping track of everything!

If you haven't yet contacted a lawyer, I would consider it. Kennedy has a very stong contract. We desided to contact a lawyer, because we felt we needed to protect ourselves. With the economy and this situation we don't know what is coming next.

As I was typing this, Kennedy's director of sales returned my latest call. She said that they have no new news. If you haven't yet read the newspaper articles, you should try the Chicago Tribune.

We feel bad for everyone involved. So Many people we left unpaid, and stuck in hard situations. Even the Kennedy that are left are stuck in a bad situatuion.

Hello All,

I wanted to clarify what Richard said about the house fires in the Bourbonnais sbvd Eagle Creek. We have had 2 house fires w/ in this community however one was a space heater being left on in the basement and the other was thought to be intentionaly/accidently set per an article in the newspaper, it never even indicated anything about the workmanship of Kennedy Homes.

I do agree they have stopped work on the houses in the building phase and I have heard that they left the building offices about 15 days ago, "just what I have heard".

About receiving lein notices on your home, I know a few of my neighbors have received letters stating their will be a lein against thier home becuase of un paid tradesman however they were told by the title company they are protected from that.

We have lived in our home over a year now and we dont have ANY complaints. Kennedy has always been very friendly and resolved any issues quickly and to our satification.

We hope that Kennedy is able to complete this sbvd and the tradesman are able to get back to work.

Could anyone help me with information on warranties? I purchased a kennedy home in May of 2007 and now March of 2008 I have a window or window frame that leaks and it is starting to destroy the drywall in my living room. Now that Kennedy is having problems I have no way to contact them about this problem. It is getting close to expiration of the warranty and I am getting worried that the problem may become my problem! Would someone please reply with a solution?

The last we heard, the warranty line was directing you to the extended warranty center.
If you don't have any luck with that then try the corporate office in Barrington. You will have to leave a message, but they will usually call back. I would mention the window is leaking, and maybe they will have a sympathy.

in 2005 we purchased a home in the Trevor Creek subdivision in Antioch, Il and I only have praise for Kennedy Home. This was our second new home and they are a solid reliable company that is just going through the marketwide housing crunch right now. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat.

Just a note about Waterman. The police and fire department closing early on Sunday? Although the town hall, where the police department is located closes at 11, it never closes. Calling 911 will always get you a response. Waterman is a small town. It is growing but it's small. Not only is Waterman patroled by the WPD, but also by the county of DeKalb, just liked many other small communities in our county.

The fire department is a volunteer FD. We have many fine firemen and paramedics who work hard for the residents of this town. I am proud of each one of them. And I know if I need an ambulance or if there is a fire, they will be there.

And as for the schools, the buildings are older, but I would never say run down. Our consolidated school with Shabbona is one of the best in the county, if not the state. Our ACT scores are tops.

The Kennedy Homes have brought more people into our community. I'm sorry the housing market is not in good condition right now. But know that the people in our town are strong and proud.

Tim,
out of curiosity, I have read Kennedy's contract. Your first years warranty is with Kennedy.(Page 4, of the Kennedy Contract) Thereafter, from years 2 through 10, your warranted by : Professional Warranty Service Corporation.(Page 19, of the Kennedy Contract)

Hope this helps.

Your hopes are way to high for this company. They are not who you think they are.

What is truly sad is that the partners are millionairs. How does that work. To walk away from your own responsibility must be hard. They are probably sipping cocktails in Florida right now.

Our loan officer contacted us on Friday, and said that Kennedy wanted to try to finish up some projects while they were going thru their lawsuit. Apparently Kennedy wanted to check on financing before begining work on any houses.
We are wondering if anyone in any of the subdivisions have seen any work begin again? All we have seen is contractors removing their trailers! So much for work begining again!
