Why are we working so hard to protect people like that? Who really, truly cares if the SWAT team goes into that kind of environment and busts heads?

Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom that he promised to those who love him? James 2:5 (from today's reading, coincidentally)
Eight nuns, their students, and retired citizens are trying to make their neighborhood a better place. And you just dismiss them, as if they were nothing?

Who's dismissing? I want those degenerates cleared out? I think you're misreading, Jamie. Nobody is advocating that we ignore the problem or the plight of the school...

While I can't speak for Baltimore City, I can for this school & my students. We are not a lost cause!
In a city with a 50% high school drop out rate, 85% of our students go on to college. They come from all backgrounds & circumstances but most live in underserved areas surrounding St. Frances Academy.
Currently, some students are afraid to come to school because of the dangerous environment that is due to encroaching drug dealing. We are marching today to set up a "Peace Zone" around our school & neighborhood.
Many of our students fear retribution due to openly marching but are choosing to do so anyway. I applaud their courage of conviction to fight for the safety of our school and surrounding community.
Today, students & faculty at St. Frances Academy (the little school by the jail) will walk their talk!!! Please pray for our safety!

Good for you. I hope it works unfortunately the only way to have a "Peace Zone" will be to have armed guards at the borders.
I wish more people in the communities around Baltimore had the courage that your students have. There will only be as much crime as the good people of a community allow.

What time are you marching? I'd like to come offer my support too.

Baltimore is not lost as long as places like St. Francis exist.

I was so sad to hear that there is no longer a "buffer zone" around the St. Frances Academy. A long standing beacon of hope now finds itself surrounded by the more complex issues already facing the immediate community. However, I was happy to hear the community together with the students marched this afternoon. I hope that more information will be forth coming. We can no longer sit iddle as our immediate community crumbles around us.

You have to be kidding me oriolesfan. Trying to compare Carroll with that cesspool Baltimore! Cut me a break! I believe Carroll had a grand total of one murder last year and one this year. Remove your head from your rectum and try to make sense when you reply

Baltimore is a cesspool and will continue to be a lost cause unless the "leaders" and parents in the city do something.
That means Sheila Dixon coming right out and saying you know what we have a major problem in this city. We have let Martin Luther King and his dream down. We need to accept responsiblity for our own actions and stop making and letting excuses be made for us.
Parents need to start parenting and we need more education on birth control and drug abuse. Criminals need to be severly punished and put away in a cage NO TV, NO GYM, just 4 walls and a crapper.
And if the ACLU has a problem with that they can go fly a kite, for some reason they only care when criminals rights are violated but could care less about the rights the criminals are violating EVERY SINGLE day to honest tax paying citizens in this city.
So Sheila tell the ACLU, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and any other excuse maker to go fly a kite it ain't working and its not gonna work.

As disheartening as it is to see the decline in respect for the school, it is also wonderful to see the community rally around the school. The authorities should spare no effort to support the community in its defense of St. Frances, which is an invaluable institution for the people of Baltimore.

The problem with Baltimore, just like every other major city in the US, is black people.

Yeah, because I've never seen a black heroin addict. They're just a dream, right? Or how about the areas where white people don't go? I don't see a lot in the project housing on Madison St. but I see plenty of drug trade there, despite the lack of those evil white people. LOOK TO YOUR OWN TOO! Everyone has a part to play in both the problem and the solution. Shucking blame to someone else is COWARDLY.
