I don't know whether I would be "civil" if someone was speeding toward my children, regardless of whether they were in the crosswalk. I am always especially careful for pedestrians in residential neighborhoods, precisely because you CAN'T always see around the car ahead of you (as the judge said).
Would the judge have been less offended if the person had yelled: "Slow down B###h" ? or "Slow down a##hole"? or a more racially-neutral expletive?
Anyway, he should be glad he could slow down in time for the children.
