After years of villifying private business and referring to these same business leaders as "rich" and not paying their fair share, EdMN wants to invite business leaders to the classroom. Why? So they can insult these hard working people to their face?

Education in MN is failing the citizens of this state. The top 10% of the students are not given the tools they need to reach their maximum potential as the next generation of leaders and academics. Frankly these people will succeed no matter how mis-managed the school systems. The middle 80% of students, you know, the students who go to school to learn, are warehoused in overcrowded classrooms. Because all of the new funding goes to support mandates like mainstreaming and catch up classes for the baby factories and thugs that are given to the remaining 10% of the student body.

Ask any good teacher that has to deal with a large class. They will tell you that 90% of their time is spent on 10 % of their students that have some sort of behavioral disorder. But the parents insist they be mainstreamed. Therefore the rest of the class gets short-changed.

Mr Dooher and his union need to stand up for the students and families that are being shortchaged in this so-called education system. I is time to admit that mainstreaming is not working. That ESL student do NOT belong with the kids that use english as their primary language. That the common english language is crucial for the success of all students. That whining about NCLB year after year is not teaching our children. That the taxpayers in this state deserve to realize value for the exorbanant (sp?) taxes we are paying.

How about it, Tom? Can you really look out for the vast majority of students in MN? Or is swelling the ranks of the teacher's union with special ed teaching aides, obscure positions like cirriculum director and diversity coordinator a higher priority? Can you come to grips witht he fact that your pensions are bankrupting this state?

I don't expect an answer from him or these people but it felt good to vent

OK, first thing, this is clearly a sympathy play. Saint Paul Schools has plenty of Money, 17,296$ a student to be exact.

Second, honestly, what businesses? I mean really... why would we want strangers in the classroom? They kick, fight, and scream if parents want to come and observe too much... but who is keeping track of what kinds of businesses? The owner of Deja Vu? A "Film Maker"? Really, how do they even know this is safe... and why would the Board of Education put children at this kind of risk?

I know why-

They're a bunch of incompent failures. Failure starts at the top, and goes all the way down to the child in the classroom.

Wow many of the posts show that the posters could use some more education. Not only spelling and grammar but thinking. These are from fine middle class people who work for a living but have been fooled so much by a certain political party that is not for the working people. Yes, fooled by republicans. If you work at a regular job being paid so much an hour oh say a good union wage or being paid min wage and all in between what do you have in common with a CEO that rakes in $46 million ? yes $46,000,000 ? You are lucky if you gross $65,000 so what do you have in common with the rich ? Ideals ? noway, what they really think is not even known to working class people. If you work for money to make a living then you know the political party for you is the democratic party. We all need to work and make a livable wage, if you work then you should not be poor.
Why take cheap shots at the teachers ? If the elected school board is goofing off then call them on it asap. Do not wait for election day.
