New state program withholds hunting, fishing privileges for 'de...

Full story: Chicago Tribune

When Rachel Miller got a child-support check for more than $14,000 last fall, she never would have guessed the long-awaited money appeared because the father of her two sons likes to hunt white-tail deer.

Now if we could only prevent the dead beat losers from being able to purchase alcohol. Example...If you owe more than $1,000.00 thousand dollars in child support, Take the losers ID card and replace with a dead beat ID card "Red background" behind photo telling bar tenders, store clerks, waittresses, etc. that the loser owes child support and make it MANDITORY not to sell the loser alcohol.
If the losers are caught with alcohol it should be some kind of dead beat loser felony. No hunting, fishing, or alcohol....This idea would really make the losers pay up!!

So the woman got the money to expand her kitchen. I guess she really did not need the money. Does not sound as if the money is being used to help the kid.
Once again, an example of system hurting dads. She has remarried, but ex still profits from his hard work.

Dude, just because their no longer married doesn't mean that he no longer has an obligation to provide for his sons. It doesn't matter if she's remarried...it's still HIS sons too. He needs to take responsibility for that.

The sad thing is that he didn't give a rats a$$ about providing for his sons until they were going to deny his license. That tells you where HIS priorities are.

It is a sad disgrace that the State of Illinois makes little or no effort to help divorced parents (usually Dads) remain connected to their children.

The last major piece of legislation designed to promote child visitation with a non-custodial parent was the 1994 'Unlawful Visitation Interference Act', a little-known and seldom enforced criminal statute. Few police departments are familiar with the law, and even fewer ever write citations against custodial parents.

The State of Illinois collects a bounty from the federal government for every dollar of child support it collects, so the underlying motive for this legislation is less altruism than it is political greed.

If only we could persuade the federal government to offer states a financial reward for protecting the parent-child connection for non-custodial parents, it might actually be possible for children to grow up with two parents instead of one parent and an absent ATM machine.

Oh, and it's wonderful that this woman got her kitchen remodeled with her child support money. That's another example of what's broken in this system - a complete and total lack of accountability for how child support is spent.

Mom could be using child support to support a crack cocaine habit, but unless she's caught buying it or using it, there is no way Dad will ever know that the money he pays to support his kids isn't just 'lifestyle maintenance'.

Illinois' child support system is one of the more regressive in the nation. It fails to take into account the time the children spend with their non-custodial parent. In fact, the more time a non-custodial parent spends with his (90% of the time it's Dad) children, the bigger the financial obligation he has to bear.

The system also ignores the financial condition of the custodial parent. The guidelines were established when women made up a small fraction of the workforce, and fathers were considered the family' s 'breadwinner.' Today, many more women are employed full-time, but the income they earn is happily ignored when courts set child support levels. It's not unusual to find divorced parents where Mom is making as much or more as Dad, but Dad's support payments are based on the time when Mom was a stay-at-home.

Does anyone know what factor has the highest positive correlation for child support payments? I'll give everyone a hint, it's not hunting or fishing licenses. It's regular contact with the minor children - the one thing the State of Illinois chooses to ignore.

deadbeat dads-don't give a care about their kids until it costs them the right to go huntin' and fishin'. Those kids are better off without their father's in their lives.

This program is clearly aimed at white working class males. How about taking away golf privileges too? Maybe take away casino boat privileges to inspire some of the brothers to pay up as well.

It appears that none of the men complaining about the erosion of their rights have any sense of obligation to support the children they fathered. I've always wanted to understand that--how can so many fathers just disappear from their children's lives and withhold support? Don't you care about your children?

Very Nice !!!!

The story states that upwards of $257,000 in back child support has been paid as a result of this increased pressure.

This is Illinois so that means probbably $25,700,000 of taxpayer money has been spent to collect the 257,000 !!!!!

AND

The back child support still out there to be collected is probably in the 100's of millions !!!!!

More Blago grandstanding?

She spent the money on kitchen renovations? What about college funds for her kids? What about enrolling her kids in some sport programs or something for them??? Its child support, not kitchen support.

Well, she probably had to wait to remodel her kitchen because all her money was going to support her kids over the past few years. A father isn't only obligated to pay for his kids when the woman is absolutely desperate for cash and the kids are at the point of starvation/nakedness. And I'm guessing her kids do eat, too.

HOW SHOCKING!

There is a correlation between dead beat dads and the white trash hill-billies that like to hunt and fish. Never would have guessed on that...

You are right, how much she needs the money is not an issue, but she should have used the money for the kids!! Here is a suggestion, use it for college for the boys!!! Since they are teenagers, they will be going to college in the next few years and the out on their own, the kitchen could have waited.

Yes, the money is being used the help the kids (two, not one)because it allows them to spend quality family time together in the kitchen playing games and having fun, etc. Of course, that is part of the house which another man is helping to pay for to support the first guy's kids. Maybe they have a college fund and had postponed doing the remodeling until now.

Shut it and go promote your cause somewhere else. This has nothing to do with the story and a completely different topic.
