I just moved to Brownfield and was shocked to read this article. I have not witnessed what is happening at the animal shelter, but I aim to get involved. People can talk and talk and talk about what is happening, but actions speak louder than words. It is obvious that there is a shortage of staff and resources at the animal shelter. Stop taking verbal jabs at each other about this awful situation and VOLUNTEER for real change. There are solutions to the problem that require action. I called about volunteering today and am waiting for someone to get back to me. They said I am the first person that has called about volunteering. If you really are enraged about what is happening and want to change it, volunteer and make it happen.

It's unbelievable that in this day and age, even a small creature is allowed to suffer as such as the story in the Avalanche. It's so easy for it always to be minimized by blaming it on a "Disgruntled Employee" Clearly this woman should be back in a Dept. where much help is needed. A statement was given about that position being a "hard position to fill". Come on! you pushed out someone that was the best person for it. Obviously passionate about animals, and their treament. In the end it was chalked up to lack of training. She has expressed willingness to return on volunteer basis. I can almost assure you that, they would never consider that. It's a shame, as this town has a severe cat problem. I've dealt with animal control, who have been more than helpful in assisting me to do the job myself, as they are always busy. I totally appreciate them in their efforts, and hope that a solution can be put in place, so that they no longer have the reputation they have been handed. If more training is required, then so be it. Who cares what the polulation is in Brownfield, the point is animal control deserve a fighting chance to get their job done right!

For the idiot that wrote in on May 25th, wake up. The accusations and issues regarding the shelter were from 2008! Are you serious? You have no idea what went on 4 years ago and what changes were made. I cannot tell you if the allegations were even true to begin with, but I can tell you that the person who initally made them is an idiot as well. Since 2008, there was a new shelter built and there are many hardworking employees and volunteers that make it a success. Pull your freaken head out!

To: Old News.... News is news irregarless of when you read it. For instance, you read my post days after I posted it, and it seemed to be news to you. It was and remians my opinion...Deal With It!
Although I can say that since my post, I happened to have some dealings with our local animal control. The hard working foot men on the street, have impressed me very much. I can say that the men working in the field, are some caring human beings. As for the behind the desk, pen pushing side of the dept. I can not speak too. I can also say that posting my opinion does not an idiot make. But it certainly brought out someone with an exposed nerve. I can only hope that seeing the fine job the animal control men on the street are doing is the product of the Dept. being revamped. and given the attention it seemed to be screaming for. To the awesome men who work on the street everyday seeing to the care of animals..... GREAT JOB...And may God Bless you for having compassion for God's animals.
