cops should be given time off. once he started firing the only transportation he should have been afforded was in the back of an ambulance to the morgue.

The police officers were wrong. The prisoner should be in the morgue. Please take these officers to the range and teach them to shoot immediatly on this situation.

I 'm ashamed that our officers cannot eliminate this problem in a fast expediant way

Hmmmm

If this person is white look out, it won't be long before some start the stupid arguement that he was white so they didn't shoot him but if he was black they would have shot him for sure. They didn't shoot probably because they didn't have a safe shot.A thug is a thug lets lock them all up.

Black or white, this piece of trash is going to have a lot of time to think about what he did. I'm guessing he regrets rolling that stop sign right about now.

This gang banger is black. It just goes to show you these thugs true colors: the cops close in on him and what does he do, drop the gun and give up. You know why, because had he been holding the gun when they got to him he would be dead. And its a damn shame he's not dead. What a piece of crap. What's the point of paying to keep this thug alive in prison. Society has no use for people like him, yet we tolerate their existence. Why?

Good job editor, changing it from "teen" to "man." A fair and unbiased article.

Great job APD. Anything encounter like this you walk away from is good one.

Grew up on Avon and what a shame it is to know what that neighborhood is becoming - used to be a nice place to raise a family - too bad they couldn't have popped him - it's time for all of us to take back our streets and neighborhoods (all around Akron) and let these gang banging pieces of sh*t know that we wont tolerate their criminal behavior. There's lots of kids in these neighborhoods and none of them should be exposed to this.

I would love to know since this kid is sitting in jail if the break-ins on New Milford stop. Interesting. And yes they should have shot him white or black...doesn't matter.

He's lucky the Akron Police were chasing him. Almost any other agency would've put the young guy down. It's good to hear that an agency apprehended a violent offender without utilizing excessive force.

Must be why he didnt make his court appearance in Portage County... and good job APD, using good judgement, not firing in an area where inoccents could have been struck... been there, I understand the thought process. I'm sure the APD Officers would have taken lethal action had it been appropriate.

I don't care what color this guy is, they should have killed him even after he dropped the gun!!!

You can't say whether the cops should have shot him or not. You were not there. If he surrendered and then they shot him, the cops would have to live with that- whether or not he deserved to die and whether or not they would have been justified. The cops don't seem to get support from a large part of the community and from some other people in powerful positions.

Let's see: I'm a criminal from Rootstown on an armed, nefarious mission in Akron.

Why don't I just violate some minor traffic laws? What's the worst that could happen?

Duh.

My grandpa was an APD officer paralyzed by a shooter. I can say that it doesn't matter what race, ethnicity, or gender the person is they all deserve the same punishment; sitting in jail the rest of their lives because if they are killed then and there they aren't being punished...wasting away in jail thinking of what might have been however is a punishment.

It blows my mind that cops will chase someone

(for any legal reason) in their squadcars at

speeds up to 80 and higher in both residential

and/or high-traffic highways, putting EVERYONE

at extreme risk (including small children walking

in neighborhoods) but won't put an ARMED FELON

down on a foot chase.

P.S. While the Police Helicopter films from

safely above.

In 2050, anyone in Akron convicted once of a felony will wear a tazer collar that can be activated by the police helicopter from safely overhead.
