SSI, or supplemental security income, is a payment made to those who have not paid in enough to be eligible for regular Social Security and is based on income. SS disability is based on what a person has paid in over their lifetime. Some people are able to draw on a deceased or disabled spouse or parent's account; others paid in, but are still eligible for a supplement because their payment is so low. Each case is determined individually. Contact the SS Admin or visit their web site.
