An unidentified woman was taken to a Jamaica Hospital in Queens after her leg slipped into a gap at the Kew Gardens Long Island Rail Road station early Thursday evening, a LIRR spokesman said.

I don't ride the train often, but the last time I did it was with 2 children, all of whom could read and understand the signs prominently posted all over the train stations. Those signs read "Watch The Gap" Guess what, the signs were on the train platform also and the children were able to read them. Getting off and on the train, the children that I was traveling with stood at the door, saw the warning and paid attention to where they stepped. If 3 children, the oldest being 12 years old, can read and comprehend the signs all over the train station, the platform and the train itself, why can't an adult. "The Gap" is one of the most discussed issues of late, how does anyone not know that it exists? Rather than blaming the LIRR for the problem, perhaps we should focus on the people that do not want or care to pay attention. People are so busy talking and trying to do a hundred things at once that they just don't pay attention.

Does no one watch where they walk anymore?

The gap "problem" is well known, but this idiot will sue anyway.

I feel sorry for the rest of the passengers who were late in getting to their destination, because of this idiot bimbo. Someone should tell her not to chew gum and walk at the same time.

Is it true that Rosie O'Donnell has the biggest gap? If so, as a society, we should make sure that it is closed somehow.

The accident occurred at about 5:20 p.m. while the 61-year-old woman was exiting the 4:11 p.m. westbound train from Ronkonkoma .......
....The train was not moving at the time of the incident ......

Brilliant reporting by Newsrag. The train was NOT moving while the woman was exiting at the station. That stupid reporting aside, I agree with the previous posters. There are signs everywhere and announcements are played on the trains and on station platforms...WATCH THE GAP. She must have been very distracted or very dumb. I wonder if she will sue the LIRR for her inability to pay attention to where she was going?

I was going to ask if you meant the gap in her face or the gap between her legs, but then I realized the answer is yes to both.:>)

Should have left the old hag there to be pulled apart by the train, rot and be eaten by rats.

I'm thinking she was yakkin' on the cell and scratching her private parts instead of watching where she was going. I've been riding the L.I.R.R. for more than half a century and haven't fallen off a train yet, drunk or sober. In the old days we had to do do stairs to get on and off when the platforms were low. People used to watch where the hell they were going.

why don't the Gap stores start advertising there.

She must have been talking on her cell phone!!!!
Even though it is illegal to drive and talk on your cell phone, I see it all the time, 1 out of 2 people drive and talk.

.....and, not surprisingly, they are women (who, by the way, already have a hard time driving properly).
