According to the Herald News, there was a "soft lock down" (meaning teachers lock the classroom doors, but remain instructing students. Students are not allowed to leave the classroom, or school campus, for any reason until the lock down is cancelled). The article mentions that this was gang related --retaliation for an incident that happened off campus.
Did anyone receive notice of the lock down from the school district? My nephew and niece both attend the school and their mother never heard anything. Frankly, I find it a little disturbing. I certainly would like to know if my children were in any type of lock down and given some reassurance that the kids were safe.

Found this on the VVSD website

Bolingbrook police are investigating circumstances surrounding an incident that left Bolingbrook High School in “soft” lockdown mode for about two hours Tuesday morning.
After police reported they had found a 15-year-old male who was bleeding and running south on Schmidt Road toward Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital shortly before school was to begin at 7:30 a.m., school officials elected to place BHS in soft lockdown as a precaution.
“It is better to be safe than sorry when you don’t know exactly what is happening,” said Leroy Brown, safety and security coordinator for Valley View School District 365U.
Subsequent investigation determined an incident may have occurred in one of the school’s second floor bathrooms and, even though it was quickly determined that no one involved in the incident remained in the school, police asked that the soft lockdown remain in place while they conducted their investigation.
At no time were any of the BHS students or staff in danger.
A soft lockdown means teachers close and lock the doors to their classrooms but can continue going about their lesson plan. No one is allowed to enter or leave the building without permission from the principal.
Roughly an hour-and-a-half into the soft lockdown, students were allowed to leave their first period classes and go to their third period classes. The soft lockdown ended about 9:35 a.m.
Bolingbrook High School has roughly 3,580 students.

From Staff Reports
A 17-year-old student is doing well after being stabbed a number of times Tuesday morning in an alleged gang-related incident at Bolingbrook High School. Police said the alleged attacker, a 15-year-old boy, has been charged as a juvenile with aggravated battery.

Michael Gonzalez was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where he was treated for his wounds.

According to Bolingbrook police, at approximately 7:31 a.m. there was a fight between two students at the school. School liaison officers saw a student running away from the school toward Schmidt Road.

The officers caught up with the student and realized he had several stab wounds. The teen was then taken to the emergency room of the hospital for treatment.

Police located the student who allegedly did the stabbing at his home. He was taken into custody. Police have not yet revealed his name.

Several other students have been questioned in connection with the incident.

According to police, the fight allegedly stems out of an incident which occurred Monday night, in which the two teens allegedly exchanged gang signs while off the high school campus.

The stabbing does appear to be gang-related, and remains under investigation, police said.

The incident left Bolingbrook High School in "soft" lockdown mode for about two hours Tuesday morning. Shortly before school was to begin at 7:30 a.m., school officials elected to place Bolingbrook High School in "soft lockdown" as a precaution.

Roughly an hour-and-a-half into the lockdown, students were allowed to leave their first-period classes and go to their third period classes. The lockdown officially ended about 9:35 a.m.

We are worried. The public is not being told what we are being told. John Q Public should look inot this, compare the district site with the papers, and question the board on mis-information.

This is not the only case of misinformation from VVSD. This is not the only case of weapons in a VVSD school in the past week. It is not only the high schools that are in danger, but everyone is always told "no students were ever in danger." What VVSD doesn't get is that informing the community can only help us all work together to make our community and our schools safer!

Amen to that! This district tells the public nothing in order to maintain its "image".
