500 cows and 700 chickens per day. And the news paper did not report this until after the vote. Until our local paper reports facts leading up to any vote. Rome can expect a nay time after time. Every day it's business as usual with anti Obama cartoons. anti democrat articles. Not everyone considers screaming cows and chickens comforting.

The newspaper did report the amount of animals to be processed several times. Ahhh, the sound of employment. I bet that when a gazelle gets chomped on by a lion, its screaming its head off. Real nature is anything but warm n cute.

The day before the vote the papers were reporting 400 cows a day. The day after the vote the numbers changed to 500 cows, and 700 chickens per day. The weeks leading up to the vote the papers referred to the business as a "Meat Packing plant" The day after the vote paper reads "Slaughter House voted down" It almost worked.

Let's c one of the applicants went up to a person speaking against the project and ripped the papers out of his hands, Rome cops were called and at end of meeting same applicant yelling and screaming and swearing at board members, Do we need this kind of businessman in Rome? GOOD RIDDANCE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS PLAN BACK TO SYRACUSE.

how it is more beneficial to a company to open a slaughterhouse in the middle of a city...when just outside the city (Griffis park for example) there are plenty of places to operate. West Rome industrial park has some vacancies, and there is a whole shopping center sitting empty.
What kind of incentive was the city offering to them, if they put it at 1212 E Dominick? There had to be some reason they found that area attractive.

That's news to me, I didn't know that all went down.

Sounds like a good idea too, they should take their slaughter house to Syracuse or up to Lewis County where these animals are being raised. But I think they wanted Rome because it has easy access to the necessary taxpayer-funded facilities like schools and health care they would need to accommodate the cheap labor they'd be importing to staff it.

Should just let them come in. Couldn't they have
some sort of agreement with the city, that if everything isn't kept up to par- they get booted outta here? People around here need jobs. Your precious town of Rome is looked at as a "trash" town any how.. By people who live in all the surrounding communities. Pretty bad when people would rather drive to North Utica Price Chopper from Floyd, versus the 10 minute drive to the Rome one.

How is a slaughter house going to help that? If anything it would make the perception worse.

This is not about jobs for locals but making life easier and cheaper for the farmers. Wherever these plants go up in the country they end up getting staffed mostly by Mexicans and Central Americans, many of whom are illegals. This is a fact because the work is hard while it pays little. If you don't believe me google it and you'll find this out. The media certainly isn't going to tell you.
