Rome Varsity Black Knight's don't stand a chance this year or a chance in the future unless they realize Ted Swavely needs to go!!! He is a disgrace to the history and honor of Rome Football!!!

You need to wake up there buddy. Been involved with the program for a very long time. This Decline started way back in the late 90's. This decline started because our children became soft and deceided it was better to text on a phone or play video games all winter and summer than it was to be in a gym. YOU DO NOT WIN FOOTBALL GAMES with weak kids. YOU have a succesful program when kids have spent numerous hours in a weight room. When kids have spent numerous hours on the practice field. I have been in the gym now and 15 years ago. There is 1/4 of the boys in the gym now as there was 20 years agp and that is not Swavely's fault. This program was always small but the kids were large, hungry and stronger and more prepared than any team in NY State. The Base did not break this program the want to is gone from our children. Its easier to play MADDEN than it is to give your all to football and work out every day. Our group lost 2 games in three years, the games were not won on the field at game time. They were won long before that, on the practice field and in the weight room. Im sick of hearing how this coach must go and that coach must go. When you dont have the horses its tough. Go walk around the high school and jr. high schools and look for yourself. Look at what these kids look like and what they are doing. There are many horses that are staying in the barn because the work ethic and WANT TO is GONE. RFA was never a team of 40 gifted athletes it was always a team of 40 HARD WORKING..DEDICATED..TOUGH NOSED KIDS. Ones that did not shy away from the battle. The numbers have not declined as much as the work ethic and dedication to the program has. Its not just in football..its in all the male sports..look at baseball..look at basketball..look at out door track. Where are those state championship weight men who were always the cornerstone of the lines at RFA.

You are right...you don't win with weak kids....I've been at many practices.....Only the kids in the actual plays are moving....while the other kids are STANDING AROUND DOING NOTHING ...thats why so many kids are getting hurt.. They don't push em hard enough at the practice..therefore they AREN'T GETTING STRONG ENOUGH!!! WEAK COACH = WEAK PLAYERS. A strong coach makes his team strong by taking out the horses and working with them. So...you are saying the players make the calls therefore they are weak? Who's fault is that?....THE COACH!! I'd love to see the 40 HARD WORKING..DEDICATED..TOUGH NOSED KIDS, But Swavely is not capable of molding them. KIDS NEED STRONG ROLE MODELS NOT FAT ASS OUT OF SHAPE NEVER BEENS..........NOT TO MENTION THAT COACH SECOND GUESSES HIMSELF AND CHANGES HIS MIND EVERY GAME AS TO WHERE THE PLAYERS ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO PLAY..and lets the kids that obviously hurt continue to play throughout the game. Go check em out tonight, you can wave at all the kids standing around.

more mindless drone creation,so parents can live vicariously through children only to raise them to be mindless followers who later join RPD to get the same feeling of being elite and take orders from somebody they think is in charge.

And BTW....I love how the "bitching" always comes after you find out it's a woman that you are talking to.....TYPICAL... Who said anything bout the NFL....Working a team to get them fit...so they stop getting hurt and become better players is what makes a difference. Sorry bout your "coughing problem"...must be all the hot air your full of.......Typical small minded twit.

Problem is Swav runs play equivalent to that of a mighty mites kid. Either he goes or he revamps his approach to coaching. The loss of the base is what started the decline in RFA sports. Those kids aren't "soft". Those kids are only as good as there coach. Similar reference to being a parent. Your kids are a direct reflection of YOU. It applies to coaching all the same.

You might be surprised how few RFA football players were ever Griffiss air base kids. In reality over the years there were very few...None in hockey, very few in baseball...Romans have always manned our sports programs with very few exceptions. It's popular to say that the base gave us players...fact is they didn't.

RFA's hayday came and went... along with Tom Hoke, who got out at the right time.

I agree with you 100 percent. The blacks were the ones with all of the talent.

My graduating class was more than twice what it is now ( early 70's). Don't pretend that numbers don't matter... they do. But there are other factors at play here... there is a lot of bad element in Rome now, and none of them are adding to the athlete base, for various reasons. It's a complicated question, but a coach, any coach, is only as good as his players.

Hoke was a tremendous coach, undoubtedly the best in Rome's history, and one of the best ever in the state, who ran a tight ship. But he had the horses too.

Sure Hoke had his horses but Ted Swavely Would also if he knew how to coach.
