Oh, what a surprise. The local/Rome Berkshire Bank debacle can be clearly laid at the feet of the renowned Charles Sprock and the former stockholders of the Rome Savings Bank (lets be sure to give him more awards and community recognition). RSBs success was solely based, for generations, in the Rome community and both, the repeatedly hailed, Sprock and the stockholders tossed the community under the bus and directly contributed to the loss of 40+ jobs with the merger into Berkshire. Then there was the purchase and closure of the Beacon Credit Union offices on South James Street in Rome; there goes more jobs! With the pending takeover of the Bank of America branches in Rome there go even MORE jobs (dont be fooled by Berkshires rhetoric to the contrary). Shameful, but that is typical of the corporate community and their stockholders. Did I mention Canterbury Press and the Sprock connection? Well keep that for another time and posting.

there are plenty (i'm one) of independent business owners who wouldn't give chuck sprock the time of day or a penny of their business. ours is a cliquey, petty, self serving for the chosen few business environment. always has been. to elevate a-holes like chucky sprock and the late (not so great) chris destito as positive role models is indeed shameful, nothing new and the reason why rome is what it is. witness the "little italy colanade".(aka dead man's divider) LOL and the corpse's ol' lady still has a seat (probably 2 for her big can) in albany!

On the contrary the MOST EXCITING.
1. they laid off Sprocks people.
2. They helped got rid of a stupid unneeded south rome credit union
3. They are getting rid of scandalous Bank of America locally
4. They way its going either you bank at Berkshire or have to go out of the area.

True but when they close the Bank of America Banks in Rome they are taking over THEY WILL BE THE ONLY BANK BETWEEN WESTGATE PLAZA AND KAPLAN'S PLAZE (Where Teddy's is by Post Office) Nice going gang. I said 30 years ago what he was going to do and everyone thought it was cute by versing the statement "Charlie Sprock will be Rome Savings Banks's last president". They would ad they have to buy him out when re retires and spoke of him as her did something great. NICE GOING
