from Syracuse Papers

Three cocaine dealers have dodged life prison sentences after a Federal judge decided there was insufficient evidence that they were responsible for an unsolved double homicide.

Judge Howard Munson of United States District Court denied a request on Tuesday from an assistant United States attorney, Grant Jaquith, to give the three convicted drug dealers stiffer prison sentences based on evidence that they killed a couple, Jason Jacobs and Kelly Coss, over a drug debt in January 1995. The couple were shot execution style in an auto parts store in Rome, N.Y.

Instead of life in prison, Judge Munson sentenced Luis Cordoba-Murgas to nearly 22 years in prison for running a family drug ring that sold at least 66 pounds of cocaine in the Rome area from 1991 to 1996. Mr. Cordoba's brother, Raul Cordoba-Murgas, got 12 1/2 years in prison, and their cousin, Luis Todd-Murgas, received a 15 1/2-year sentence.

''The Government has catalogued some evidence that defendants were responsible for the homicides,'' but it is not enough, Judge Munson wrote.

And the last part of the story;
Ms. Coss and Mr. Jacobs, both 20, were parents of a girl who is now 7 years old. Mr. Jacobs was working at the auto parts store, and Ms. Coss had just brought him a pizza when they were shot in the head.

Mr. Jaquith tried to prove at a hearing two months ago that Luis Cordoba sent his brother and cousin to collect a debt of $3,800 for cocaine that he had sold to Mr. Jacobs. When Mr. Jacobs refused to pay the money out of the store's cash register, Raul Cordoba shot the couple, according to prosecutors.

The three men denied any involvement in the slayings. No one has been charged in the homicides.

and if your still interetsed, the panamanians sentences were vacated and they were resentenced when judge munson's interpretation of the required standard for considering their association with the Coss/Jacobs murders was deemed not correct, that the connection with the murders met the standards for upward departure from the sentencing guidelines - up to life in prison.

and Yes - Dennis Calandra was named in the court actions.

The text was direct from Syracuse Hearld Newspaper - Nothing I made up - sorry if it doesn't fit your memory, or maybe the reporter got it wrong? That was in 1998 - the child would be 15 years older so about 22 now. I am pretty sure she would still be interested in what is going on with the bunch of ingrates that made her an orphan.

Kelly worked at Pizza Hut. Her b/f worked at Fisher's. He was trying to get out of the drug racket because of his daughter. He owed Big Louie for coke, strawberry was sent to collect, went to Fisher's as the place was closing. Shot Jason in head when he wouldn't pay, Kelly left work to drop off pizza at Fisher's which Jason had phoned in for. She came in and surprised Strawberry who then shot her. That's the way I heard it and it makes sense to me. There was no stalking and Kelly was not the target, she just happened to come in and see what was going on.

buried,
strange how all of a sudden you care about something when it wasn't you doing it.

all bull poop story, like he wouldnt give them the money from the auto place?(like others did at subway) pure hogwash.

pure hog wash she wasnt a target either.

sure looks like a hit alright.

pure hogwash "there was no stalking"

and ultra pure crapolla if they had evidence on anything wouldn't they have tried them?
what kind of scam was that?

caused more trouble and misery for good innocent people and look where it gets them, just like before.

enough said after 20 years bury it and forget about it.
not worth the waste.

Raul Cordoba Murgas - known by his nickname Strawberry.

Neither were tied up - Jason was lying behind counter, Kelly in aisle. It did not say anything in papers indicating "execution style"

said in the paper once that the troopers let out more info they were eating their last meal or something.
when in the legal documents it said that the pizza was still in the box placed neatly on the counter and none of it ate.
that did away with the jail house snitches story.
