You know nothing about me or my situation, or what my diet consists of, so, right off the bat, you're talking out yer ass, or "through your hat".

I worked for DECADES paying into our Social Safety Net Programs, and I have NO children.

You got one thing right- I have problems.

Comparing Christmas or birthday gifts to your year-round free Christmas is laughable!
Contribute something more than multiple kids from different partners and you can tell people to shut up. Scummy!!

are you blaming lack of employment for your choices in the grocery store? What I am talking about are choices the benefit user makes directly, in the way that they spend the benefits they already get.

There is no one else to blame for those decisions. The buck stops DIRECTLY at the feet of the beneficiary. And if you think that your purchasing habits are not being tracked in some way, you are disillusioned. I think that just as prepared foods and non-food products are blocked at the register, so should junk foods and empty calories.

This does not mean your family can't enjoy a nice cake or pie or even ice cream...just buy the ingredients and make it yourself. If we can cook, we can feed our family good food for less money. Almost anything you can buy, you can MAKE, for less money, with less fats, sugars, and no chemical additives. Feed your kids a healthy diet, so they can do well in school, and succeed in life.

The buck stops at the consumer, and when you are spending money gained from my tax dollars, you should have a responsibility to shop responsibly.

OK I get what ur saying but I feel its out of ignorance for the situation. SNAP benefits are never enough to feed the ppl its intended for a whole month. If u look at prices in a grocery store u would know that fruit is way more expensive than a bag of chips or something with no nutritional value. Soda n koolaid is cheaper than a half gallon of juice. It may not b healthy but those kids r going to eat longer off that crap than fruits n veggies!! N so what if that's what they bought? U mean to tell me that a child can't have a snack because their parents can't afford it? Please, as a single mom who had to get help once myself, knows I can't buy my child I phones n video games but if a pack of oreos makes him feel happy then damn it that's what I'm going to do. Maybe instead of hiding behind a computer complaining about it u should become part of a solution. But yea let's talk about cheating the system. I do taxes for a living and every year I c "higher society" ppl trying to scam the IRS so they can get more money back or pay less tax. U wanna make a big deal about what u THINK u know but u look like an ass. I say if snap recipients have to get their food chosen for them, ppl in higher tax brackets should get their tax returns looked into a little closer. Believe me, as a preparer I know its a simple click of a mouse and your red flagged lol it can't work both ways n some of u shouldn't throw stones from your big glass houses!!!

There should be a mandatory drug test, administered by a sheriff, at the residence of said welfare rat on no notice 4x a month. If they fail the drug test they should get no benefits. I have to take random drug tests at work, and had to take one to get hired to makethe money that I WORK for. These people get it handed to them for doing nothing except having more kids that they will not raise.

. That's because SNAP is short for supplemental nutrition assistance program. It is not intended to feed you for a whole month. It is intended to help you supplement your food bill.

I have no reason to hide anything on my tax return from the IRS, I am not a rich person, but I manage to get by. My taxes are paid (and I do my own taxes). AND you may have a legitimate beef, when you talk about tax shelters. Just as I have a legitimate beef when I talk about people abusing snap benefits to buy a cartload of crap that won't last a week much less a month. Ignorance IS a problem...as evidenced by your post. I think people who are underemployed or who for some reason have more children than they can afford to raise should be taught about nutrition and how to stretch their food dollars (or better yet, take advantage of the nutrition education information provided by SNAP). You appear to have a computer and internet access...I guess that is the trade off. You have choices tho. Perhaps you should use that money to subsidize your SNAP benefits.

I really do hope, though, that you take some time to educate yourself not only about how to buy and prepare healthy foods...but about the really bad effects that all those chips and koolaid are having on your kids. They are your kids, you brought them into the world, now you have the responsibility to raise them well. That might mean sacrificing a friday night out...it might mean sacrificing something that YOU really want...in order to feed your child apples instead of chips.

aggrevated - SNAP or FoodStamps are meant to help you buy SOME of your food not ALL of your food for the month, to help you with your unemployment check or worker's comp or temporary assistance, or savings until you can get a job.
You should be using it to buy your milk, breads, veggies, fruit and proteins - buy your sugary and junk crap on your OWN DIME.
I see people spend $4 for a prepared salad that is for only 1 meal.
For a dollar more they can buy all the fixings to make 3 or 4 salads on their own.

Don't Breed em if you can't feed em

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but dont expect them to feed and clothe them until they are adult- that is the parents job

Money is fungible (google it). No one can know whether or not that person who aggravated you in the cashier line also shopped for fresh vegetables at a farmer's market and picked up a basket of staples from a food bank that same day. You might consider spending more time reading the trashy tabloids while waiting in line and less time eyeing other people's shopping carts. Just sayin' ...

I will always care about people using benefits that are supposed to be for food (read: substance with actual food value), and are instead being used for edible products with little or no nutritional value and products that actually promote poor health (which also increases health care costs).

In the real world, I shop at a LOT of farmer's markets and roadside stands. And most of the people I meet there are NOT the people who are buying kool-aid. Just sayin.
