thinking of cutting the cable and making a switch. anybody know "from experience" exactly how may stations can be received digitally over UHF now? how many HD? which antenna should I buy? i'll still keep my high speed internet which has so many streaming options like netflix & itunes. seems like now much of what i subscribe to is available online a-la-carte. a few hbo & showtime series etc. so how much content is out there for free over the air?

I get over 20 over the air channels. Some are HD and others aren't.
I got my antenna on line with an outside amp. You will need a rotor. Total cost was just over $200. I have been using an antenna for years.

"Outside" amp? I use one with cable but it's inside. I understand the rotor. So how can you distribute the signal to other rooms simultaneously, each viewing whatever they want? Antenna for each TV?

There are things called splitters. Hook the main cable from the antenna to the input of the splitter and the other cables going to each TV from the outputs of the splitter. You can get spitters that have any number of outputs.
The outside amp gives better signal amplification than an inside one. However, whatever works is always OK.

thanks Joe S. sure i'm familiar with splitters. i use them post amp to distribute the signal to 4 rooms now. if i need a rotor i'm assuming that's to get better signal from a particular source/direction so i'm wondering how it works when those in another room want to view another channel.

In Rome you can get Syracuse channels, most of the time, and Utica without moving the antenna. So there is no issues with TV's in other rooms. When it is windy as the past couple of days, the signals may go in and out. Channels 56 (1 thru 6) and 40 (1 thru 4) are the weakest with channels 5 and 3 having issues some times.
Unless your big into sitting in front of the TV for hours on end cable or dish is the way to go. Otherwise, the antenna should work fine with the other on-line options available.
