Stage at Rome's Franklyn Field taken demolished

May 24, 2013 Full story: WKTV 28

A popular hang out for kids in the City of Rome no longer stands. The dilapidated stage at Franklyn Field has now been demolished after the city deemed the stage "potentially hazardous." It was also dangerously close to Black River Boulevard, located at the edge of the park.

He had no problem trying to put a public works garage close to the playground.Should we be surprised that he has no respect or concern for preserving the character of the city for our children?

There will be nothing left to this city when we finally get him out of office. Sad but true. He is bad enough now but wait until he is voted out. He will destroy as much as possible before leaving office. Wouldn't it be nice if he had a fatal heart attack tomorrow? KARMA

It was just a stage. I'm sure we'll survive.

Somebody overdosed in the bandshell Wednesday night. It was nothing but a place for druggies to hang out and not be seen. It was rightfully destroyed the next day. The truth sucks but that is what really happened here and you won't read about this in the paper as it is bad publicity.

It was the wrong thing to do. Dimarco should have at least brought it up to us who live in the ward he represents. We are not happy about this foolish move.

It was something of an eyesore. I think the park area will look better with it gone.

I was unaware of the drug activity. BUT I agree with the other poster that it should have been discussed. This administration likes to hide the truth. They could have patrolled better there. That would mean they would have to get out of the police car and walk over. A little police presence would have deterred these kids. They will just find somewhere else to go. Next they will tear down the skate park because the kids sit under the half pipe and do drugs where they can't be seen. Soon there will be nothing left for the kids to do and they will ALL be into drugs. Sad but true!

You are correct. We should have been given the opportunity to donate time, supplies or money to fix it up. I would have. Some of us would have gladly kept an eye out for the drug activity. I live a stones throw from the park and was not aware of this.

Maybe you are unfamiliar with our neighborhood. Probably because you couldn't afford to live here. This is not a welfare neighborhood. With a mouth like that,I can only imagine what your offspring are like.

By clearing that spot in the park where will RPD speed enforcement units hide to catch speeders on the blvd.? They can't use the armory...the public can see them out in the open there.

Just wait. The grass will soon be tall enough.
