Brown chased Rite Aid out, and he was as powerless as a sissy to influence Coumo, he knows all about Brown!

That is just another big piece of land to set ideal and be useless. That prison takes in a lot of land, and being the old state school, just how much of the land is contaminated. The state can get around it, it went from one state thing to another state thing, so they were grandfather in, and get around the contamination. But if some other business were to take over, how much clean up would be needed. Just like the base, there are areas so contaminated, they will never be safe.

Everybody in Rome needs to quit whining about this, it's not 500 CO's who live in Rome, they live throughout the Oneida County area. The impact on Rome will not be nearly as bad as people are making it out to be, if anything it will be a positive one.
Once the prison is gone and these trashbag families that followed the prisoners here from downstate or wherever the hell else they came from, they'll leave with them. I for one can live with a city that has a smaller population if it gets rid of some of the filth were forced to live around.

They grip about the prison bringing in crime, and now they grip about it closing. Ever hear the saying about a new rope. typical of Romans.... Topix should band people in Rome from using Topix

Okay here's the deal. 500 jobs in this prison... Probably about 300 of the jobs live in Rome. Probably about 200 of them own houses. Probably about 100 of them have wives who live here and have a job, so I say at least 100 people will be out of this area and gone. I'm sure Rome will be fine, it will work itself out. Rome sustained after the base left, I'm sure we can handle 100 people leaving the area.

None of these inmates families will leave. There is still three other prisons. What will go is people spending money around here. This will hit our area hard.

i work there you people in rome are crazy . some of us will bump people at the other prison they will have to move elsewhere . 500 jobs just move next door your dreaming , thats the craziest thing i ever heard . most people will move its really expensive to live here for what we have here . theres always trouble in town and the only thing to do here is the casino . that leaves the kids out plus never winning gets old . i wont miss this place much just my friends but we will make new ones

Nobody spends money in Rome anyways except at Wal Mart and McDonalds. And I don't see either of those places going anywhere regardless of if the prison moves, or if Fort Stanwix grows wheels and decides it wants to get the hell out of here as well.
There's next to zero marketplace in Rome, if people want something they go to New Hartford or Syracuse. Wal Mart drove most of the retailers out, and the absurdly high taxes drove out the rest of them. Rome will look like Tombstone only without the OK Corral in 10-15 years unless the politicians get their heads out of their asses and make some big changes. If history is any indicator though, I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
