Rome Pharmacy (medicine shoppe) in the plaza where Teddy's is closed out of nowhere on Friday. All the customers are being directed to Walgreens (calls are forwarded there). Anyone know what happened? Was Hash doing something shady we should know about?

really because walgreens told me that they just found out friday and Hash said he had to go take care of other business.. it doesn't sound like it was at all planned like that. In any case, I agree.. I'm pissed.

The local Walgreens employees did not know. All done hush hush at the tops of Walgreens and Medicine Shoppes. Apparently Walgreens has done this before, they swoop in and make the purchase of small pharmacies franchises and there is nothing that can be done. Hash has always been an upstanding pharmacist and only knew for a cuple of days that the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacies had been bought out by Walgreens, shame on the franchise and Walgreens for not telling the franchise owners. Hash also had to move from his place in Rome, I wish him well in is new endeavors in the future.

Wow. If this is true, it is so dissapointing. It was so nice to be able to go to a small pharmacy and deal with the same person each time. Hash is the man. Not only was he always nice and professional, he filled your scripts fast and tailored to any special needs customers might have had. He will be missed by many. As far as Walgreens goes, I agree - shame on them. Talk about stealing customers - all of our info gets forwarded to Walgreens without even asking US- the CUSTOMER - where we want to go when Hash closed? That's BS. Walgreens would have been my last choice.

Has Hash moved to work at another pharmacy. I called Walgreens and his not employed there. I would consider going to a pharmacy that he was working at. If anyone knows, keep us informed.

So everyone should just boycott walgreens then go to walmart. In fact, it is high time we start boycotting all these corporations, llc's, and even samll businesses that do bs things and unfair things and try to pull fast ones.

Boycott fastrack too because they charge more for gas than Hess does and have the discount scam. The discount gets taken out of your savings account if I am not mistaken. Thats not a discount it is a lie and a scam. People have it hard as it is without these already rich c-suckers scamming on how to get into our bank accounts and savings for retirement. They dont care if we all starve to death as long as they get their money they dont need.

So lets teach them a lesson low wages no jobs, inflation and scams, lets hit em in their wallets and stop buying stuff from any of these A-holes.

I read a report on msn recently that said walgreens batteries were the shortest lasting brand tested, of course then you will have to come back sooner and pay more for overpriced items

Medicine Shoppes are all still open in the Syracuse area... And the corporate website is still open, and a news search gives no results of them or their parent company selling anything off. Sounds like a one-off pharmacy closed and people are speculating, not realizing that whenever a pharmacy closes the records always get transfered to another pharmacy, usually a chain one.

That makes no sense. When a doctor or dentist closes, the records are automatically transfered somewhere's. It's happened to me twice with dentists. There are already procedures in place.

Also, if the owner of the local Medicine Shoppe franchise wasn't previously aware of this, then he is going to be in trouble. This happened in Syracuse:

People have also tried claiming HIPAA violations but the state requires they be transferred:

It is not a HIPPA violation because the records were transferred between two medical practices (ie two pharmacies, or a pharmacy and a doctors office).

The law is the law. HIPAA (One P, not two as it's Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) didn't even include the Privacy Act at first (That came later), and in the event of a closure the records are allowed to be transferred, same as when a doctor automatically transfers your records when they close and you got to the new doctor to transfer your records to whom you want.

It was the owner of the local Medicine Shoppe franchine who made the decision, as he could have easily transfered it to Walmart, Rite Aid, Prescription Place, etc... If he didn't give the state notification then he will be fined. Nothing in the law requires him to tell the customer, and he probably made the decision not to as it could have cost him to lose business beforehand.

So far you've made baseless accusations and statements based on gross misinterpretations of the law.
