Did you forget about the last time we had fireworks idiot! People were trampled by horses! Maybe the law suits that were filed against the city cost us our fire works! Not our COPS!

It IS expensive to hire a pyrotechnics company to shoot off a display. I worked for one for a few years (my best friend's father owned the company) and people would pay upwards of $5k for a show, many would pay $20-30k.

Did you read somewhere that it would only cost them $3500? That's a really small show, if you did.

Don't feel like you got cheated kids. New Hartford probably won't be spending money on them this year either. Why? Because we have crooks running our town and now we are broke!!

According to the Rome Sentinel, for the past three years the cost of the fireworks was shared by a corporate sponsor. This year a sponsor wasn't willing to step forward.

In order to cut costs and keep taxes down, moneys budgeted for overtime were cut. It amuses me that the taxpayer wants cuts made, but they still want the same level of service provided. If you have less money, you have to cut out something in order to pay bills, but it's supposed to be different when it's government?

And to the person who thinks the police should volunteer their time. How would you like it if your boss said "OH, I need you to work overtime today, but I'm not going to pay you since you're here all ready?" I'm sure you'd be the first in line for that deal now wouldn't you?

You must be a real FN idiot with that comment! What was he supposd to do take out the whole store-you must have known him or his family or be related and I can understand the sorrow because SOMEBODY missed the fact that this guy wasnt ok mentally, but to choose a comment like that about this officer Moore is way more then wrong! He was doing in action what he was trained to do. The gun wasnt pointing at you was it?

If each person on welfare gave up $2.00 they would have the money . how is it the people that work hard have to go without ,yet we have to pay taxes and then the state keeps raising taxes ..

Yes and I dont remember ROME ever having any other fireworks BUT The Honor America day usually end of July when they do the parade and shoot off the canons with the orchestra plays the overture. Thats the best all around I say. people come from quite a distance to enjoy that and that makes me proud of our little City. But I am sure I will get some dimwitted commentary over that next. Ya know the being proud of OUR little city part!
