We can all Thank the ppl that decided to put the prisons in many years ago. That is a lot of the problems with good ole Rome these days. The ppl in the prisons families all moved here so they could be close to whomever in prison. That is why the nice little town of Rome is no longer a good town because it drag all the trash in. Not saying everyone, but a huge majority are. Very Sad. Who was mayor when the prisons opened up? Are you happy Mr.Mayor for a job well done. I bet he doesn't live around here no more. Thanks!

Yep, the Locals blame the prisons - but wait, they're pretty much closed now. And before that, the Locals liked to blame the military - but the base has been closed for a couple decades now. They've also tried blaming the Thruway....

The only thing the Locals won't blame for the condition of Rome, NY is......the Locals.

This same old tired line about the prison ruining Rome is based on absolutely NO facts. I have searched for data to support such a notion and it simply does not exist. I have found data that suggests a stronger correlation to Rome's being located along the NYS Thruway than being the site of state prisons to explain the decline in family incomes and increases in crime.

But folks who are too lazy to perform intellectual analysis repeat the line over and over again.[sigh]

It is so true that the prisons ruin Rome. Doesn't matter if the prisons all close up because the damage is already done. Never to be fixed again.
