Okay, so I like to say that AFRL is cheating the system. They hire contractors to do the job of government workers. The contractors are glorified secretaries who make 65K to 150K a year. The premise of hiring contractors is that you won't have to bump up your civilian employment. Well when the same contractor works for AFRL for 20 years makes more than a federal employee, and comes to work at 830 am and leaves by 4pm every day (7.5 hours) . THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. Please Mr. Hanna look into this at AFRL.

I am a contractor for the lab and I have a Masters degree in software engineering. I hardly think I am a glorified secretary. You should have gone to college.

Are you one of the many contractors who started with the government, got your masters paid for by uncle sam, did your homework while at the lab, and then went to work for AIS? Like sooo many others!!!!!!!!

The least you can do is put in a full 8 hour day.

No, I have always been a contractor and put myself through school. Are you one of those people who weren't smart enough to get a degree and have to sit around watching smarter people getting further ahead than you are so all you can do is come on here and piss and moan about it?

Please do not get mad at people around you because you decided to be a janitor at rome labs. Not everyone can have higher paying jobs, just those who dedicated themselves to those ends. GO BACK TO SCHOOL> Its not that hard. Good luck (sincerely), Non Rome Lab employee

It's funny how contractors keep the same work when they move to different companies. The purpose of recompeting is to bring costs down. But at AFRL the purpose is to give my golfing buddy contractor a higher salary by jumping to another contractor.

Why don't they install badge readers. My Janitorial company has you swiping in and out!!!!

Seems that it would make sense to know who is in your building in the event of an emergency.

Too Funny,

I saw in the paper AIS is hiring. Nevermind, you probably wouldn't be good enough for them. They have pretty high standards over there.

Recompeting meaning having to relearn everything over the course of the previous effort?

Do you realize how much time is required to come up to date on some of these efforts? Cost savings? Lmao.

So what does that make you, an unglorified secretary?

My Brother-in-law just got hired over to AIS. He told me that they hired something like 20 or 30 new graduates. Most out of Clarkson (where he graduated) and other places like Binghamton and RPI (others?).

I know I'm breaking the unwritten rule that all posts on this blog are supposed to be negative but I'm glad someone is stepping up and helping to keep our families local. I'm sick of the "Brain Drain" around here!

I'm not worried. Someone will find an excuse to put them down. I'm sure "Too Funny" will jump in here and take care of that.

No kidding, I thought adding well paid, well educated people to the area was a good thing. Good for your in-law, hope it works out.

Folks,

Don't hate the players - hate the game. We, the government, have established the rules and now we complain about it. We outsource, then we in source, and in each case costs eventually catch up with us.

We, Americans, have created the society norms by which we live. Get a degree and get paid, perform and get paid -- then we got bored with that and went with just the "get paid" part. As a result we now have a society that believes in entitlement instead of earning their way.

Wake up, privileges are earned. And if you look around you maybe you will realize that today it is a privilege to have a job and getting paid is a blessing.

It's easy! Go kiss certain people's asses like the Chief of RIK, and suck up to the certain division secretaries and hang out with them when they gamble at Vernon Downs and buy them gifts. All that is against the rules, but it is done and overlooked. It's not like these people mentioned have any ethics anyway. they just know how to lie. Then you can sit around and do nothing all day and gab and play kissy face all day.
