aleta-i called lucy to give her my # to give to you, however she never returned my call. So, I devised a method--get ready--the first two digits of your address in 'cuse when I was there--subtract the number -6-and use that number to uncover my digits.--I will start with the area code--Subtract 2-Subtract 4- Subtract 8- Subtract 7- Subtract 4- Subtract3- Subtract6- Subtract 4- Subtract7- and Subtract 9. I sure hope that this plan works! The voicemail on my phone is inoperative,so if I do not pick-up, just leave your # and I will return your call.
I called the # I came up with, but it was a wrong number. Some foreign lady answered, then put someone else on the phone and said I had the wrong number. I asked for Allie or Ami. Maybe we could meet at a diner or something. I'm free all summer during the day. Is there a diner in or near Mahwah? If we agreed on a specified time, say for lunch, I could be there. I look very different from the way I used to. I have short, straight blonde hair with bangs, and I'm quite heavy. I will be wearing capri pants and a summer top with flip flop sandels and a crocheted purse.

when was you there. the old marcy state hospital hasn't existed chinc 1991 when it just occupied the east tower of B building and old A building. if you were there after that then you were probably in central new York psychiatric center witch is the one there now for prisoners. the old marcy state hospital did have improved conditions in its final years of operations on the adult side. but not the childrens unit. it was what i heard was a real pit.

I actually believe Mr. Morrison's story. That's the most information I have heard on it for years.

does anyone remember how one got the iron gates at the entrance to Marcy State Hospital to open? Was there a gate house? Or were they just open during the day? I can't remember.

Also, to Dawn and John Morrison (as well as any others I might have missed), a big THANK YOU for posting about Crane Hill. I am sure that the memories are tough, but your voices are needed. I would like to see something go up on the web that is more permanent for you and your classmates, just in case others are looking. It might fill in the gaps.

Who do you remember? I was 6 yrs old in 1959 when I was sent there? Were you on the boys' ward or the girls'? I seem to hear more from the boys than the girls.

and the one in utica did at one time have a gate house just inside the courtstreet gate. I don't think that the MARCY state hospital ever had a primater fence cause it was outside the city out in the country

Allie, I got your card, and tried to write to you. The letter came back "no such street". You mentioned in the card that you tried to get my number. I assume that you've seen my posts. Write to me again or call Donna and get my number.

we all love to hate state hospitals. why because of what happened at maney of them. but do you ever wonder why there campuses look like parks
thats because when a lot of them were built they
were supposed to be places of healing and comfert. even in the old days. but over crowding and buget cuts took there toll on these places
the term ASYLUM means a place of safe keeping
not all ASYLUMS have a bad history. some of the better ones include places like the brattlebaro retreat and the bloomingdale asylum (new york hospital) in white plaines and shepperds prett in balitmore md .envirement is a mager part of mental health treatment. maney modren mental hospitals are to genoric and industral looking
they look like a box. they make you feel like an animal in a cage. check out the new childrens unit at hutchings psy center in syracuse it has a fance
25 to 30 ft high. It looks like the raptor exibit in
JURASSIC PARK . in contras CRANE HILL SCHOOL
had a nice play ground with a wooded area
John....your experience and words show great insight and I admire your strength to share.
