The city of Rome is rich in history. I remember when the American Corners was still around. I come from the Southside myself, but knew a lot of East Romans. It is to bad the Rome has decayed so badly. I moved away 14 years ago, I am up in Northern Maine now. I do remember Vinci's Tripe and loved the Hollywood at 3 a.m., those were the glory days. Back in its heyday it was a hopping city.

Thank you all so much for the memories.Rome/Utica area was a much safer, much happier place back in the day.Seems like the prisons have brought so much trash to the area and the young people have no respect for themselves or for where they live.We all know those days are gone, and sadly see a depressing future for the area. When will the young people step up and make it a happy ,safer place to live for their children?

A few people still live there. There are a lot of abandoned buildings and factories. It is not like it used to be. It has fallen like the rest of the city of Rome. It once was the Economic Industrial engine of Rome employing up to 10,000 people employing them in Middle Class jobs. A few people still work over at Revere. R-S Steel built a new building over there where General Cable was. The bad news is, they pay about what Walmart,Price Chopper, and P&C would pay hourly. The unfortunate thing is the State has a new Tier Five. The last one out of Rome turn out the lights.
If you are talking about Harborway off of E Dominick its not RS steel its American Alloy Steel, and they happen to pay their employees real well, they also have good benefits and nice bonuses. They take good care of their employees!!

I invite you all to pinto field club house on the 26th of April at 6 pm. A neighborhood meeting. The second so far and the mayor himself will be there to address the neighbors of the first ward with John sparace. Please come and hopefully get this place back to the good old days.
I can't imagine how great of a place it must have been back when my parents were growing up there, the difference from when i was a kid back in the 90's to now is unreal. I just remember going down to Parisi's Dugout like every day with my cousin and buying packs and packs of sports cards with money our grandmother would give us, then eating at the Pizza Company on our way home. It wasn't anything like what the old-timers got to experience there, but for us it was awesome.
I doubt it will ever get back to that, once all the old Italians left it lost most of it's flavor. Now it's all druggies and trash. And the people who rent there really don't give two $hits what the property looks like cause they don't own it. It's really, really sad.

Oops, forgot Marina's. The absolute best restaurant in Rome when I was growing up, I wish like hell they would re-open. I heard some rumors about it awhile back, but nothing ever came of it.
