I am disgusted with this.
Yesterday, State REGENT EXAMS are going on. You close schools for a snow day for inclimate weather. You are in the Rome rag paper that it was too cold and the temperatures predicted to stay cold. Only 67 students had REGENT exams, your concern was with the safety of the other 5700 students. The REGENT exams can be taken in June. Let's hope they pass and can graduate.
Today, State REGENT EXAMS still going on. You delay school for 2 hours. Today it is colder than yesterday and the temperatures predicted today to stay cold, actually colder than yesterday. WHY NOT CLOSE AGAIN? Children's safety is not an issue today, but it was yesterday? Did you not think the process of the cold weather predicted for the entire week? It has been forecasted since last week.
AND WHO PAYS FOR YOUR THINKING? WHO PAYS FOR YOUR BAD JUDGEMENT CALLS? WHO PAYS FOR THE REISSUE OF NEW REGENT EXAMS?
THE ROME TAXPAYERS DO! WHAT A WASTE OF TAXPAYER MONEY!
AND I haven't mentioned your 3 new positions created paying over $100000.00 each.
IF THE CITY OF ROME IS BROKE AND CAN'T RAISE TAXES, YOU SHOULDN'T EITHER. THE COUNCILERS NEED TO STOP YOU TOO!
I am disgusted.

Wow! You are totally 100% right. However, as we know from the past, Simons will come up with some type of spin on this. He is going to look like such a moron if he doesn't close schools today. He has another half hour in my estimation to decide.

The funny part is, this is how it goes: if they opened on time, someone would be in here complaining...they close, people complain...they delay, people complain....THEY CANT WIN!!

The weather was not considered to delay the BOE meeting last night giving out contract extensions. Think about it. $$$$

Your choice. Turn you kids into spineless little wusses. It's cold; bundle them up. They'll be fine. This is NY, not Siberia.

Sucks they have to walk, you have a legit decision to make. But if your kids get picked up at the door, or only at the bus stop for 5 min....or you drive them, buck up and get to school! I agree with the fact that to many kids are babied through life which is part of the societal problem we have in this country! TOUGHEN UP!! Bundle up, take precautions, and go to your regularly scheduled event...just like when they have jobs one day.

I can tell you for an absolute fact that the buses were having problems starting today. At 1pm they were still jump starting some of them.

On a side note...when I was in elementary school (back in the 1970's) school was canceled for temps like this morning. My phone said it was 15 below. Back then there were a lot more walkers though. I had to walk from George st to De Witt Clinton on Ann st. My child has no school all week due to Regents exams but he has been out every morning starting my car to warm it up. He even shoveled the path yesterday morning. He is fully aware that it doesn't matter how cold it is,Mom goes to work EVERY DAY.

According in tonight's paper, you say that today's predicted forecast was to be warmer throughout the day than it was yesterday? What weather forecast were you looking at? Florida? It sure wasn't Rome NY. The forecast I watched said it was to be colder than the day before. Admit it, you and Rabia made a bad judgement call for a snow day.
