The Batmobile or the Mystery Machine or Kit. This city is nuts. What the hell do they need another vehicle, let alone they have to attach a useless name to. Waste of money to say the very least and will never get used. Will probably sit at the station next to their SWAT bus and the ATV that has never left its parking spot in front of the station since it was bought. Wake up Mayor we are in Rome NY! It's hard enough getting the cops to move when I speed past them perched at Franklyn's Field while im on the boulevard, what's the purpose of this much needed vehicle in our city town?

If I remember reading correctly, this vehicle was the idea of the frustrated 2nd ward councilor. Anything to make people think that he is pro-public safety. What an egomaniac and money waster. Did the chief of police have any input? I would hope he is smarter than that and sees what a waste of money this really was, all for a headline!

What is the point of owning this vehicle? Do the people of Rome really need it? And they wanted to raise taxes 5 percent and couldn't find where to save the $? Lol.

The vehicle is a necessity! What is wrong with you people! With all the violence, crime, and anti socials out there how else do you expect the cops to protect the DONUTS! Beside it can be used to transport Joey around this way he does not get his truck dirty. Duh..

I believe the vehicle is a big waste of money but there is a reason behind naming it. The children will get excited to be involved. With all the crime out there we need to get the children to have these role models again. Every little boy used to dream of being a police man or fireman. How often do you here that anymore? Now you hear little kids badmouthing the cops. I have even seen 5 year old children flip off a cop car as it went by. This is because so many of these young parents are criminals.

Okay, pumps the brakes! This vehicle carried a price tag of $10.00; otherwise donated by Brinks to the City of Rome. There is left over grant money w/RPD and the balance of refurbishing funds comes from community donations.$5k has been donated by one of the local banks (can’t remember which one exactly). Some work will be put in by DPW to get the vehicle in running order. The reasoning behind this vehicle is to have it parked in problematic areas; there are plenty of those in town. It will have live time surveillance w/a direct feed to RPD. Try giving it a chance before bashing the concept. I agree that the $60k purchase of the 4 electric vehicles was, at best, misguided. They could have a use in town but not by the RPD; put parks or codes in them. Meantime, they shouldn’t have been purchased in the first place.

I was unaware of the donations. In that case,It is a good idea. BUT here is my take on the problematic areas being helped by this. Though it WILL help those areas it is NOT going to stop crime. It is just going to move the crime to another area. When the vehicle moves the crime will return. Obviously, very few people are stupid enough to deal drugs in front of a big cop mobile. Everyone will know where it is parked. Therefor criminals will avoid that area. UNLESS they plan to drive it around. That I would see helping.
