City hall girl

Last night paper sure hit the nail on the head - council beat the gravedigger back into the hole he has dug for himself. We all see it here everyday at work but the public needs to know from an objective outside source like the council that he is like a crude lazy slob that doesn't work.

The response from most of the councilors was reserved for the most part. They are still too chicken shit to really do anything or say anything to piss off the "Don" of city hall. All they can do is give the public lip service and make it seem they are doing the best they can. They need to do more than give lip service, or give the impression they are actually care about what is going on. Fusco squandered 600,00 dollars we had as a surplus, but did the council say anything? No. Did the council ever do anything about Fusco misusing city property? No. Did they open their mouths when CDBG funds were misused to buy up privately owned property that just happened to be the property of his big campaign supporter? No. Did they voice their concerns when Fusco went to his hand picked people to get another 450,000 dollars with out letting anyone know until after it was done? No they kept their mouths shut. Where is the open government we were supposed to have? No they are just as inept as our mayor, and then these people want us to re-elect them. Come election time they will pass the buck back to Fusco, and blurt out some bull to the press so folks will believe they did something. But thatís all they will do. So vote again for the do-nothings bobble heads itís not their fault. They want to do something other than sound good for the paper then they need to work on a solution to remove Fusco before there is nothing left.

From what Iíve seen in the media the $600k surplus is debatable. With a couple of exceptions the Common Council is indeed standing up for the taxpayers in the face of the Mayor. The CDBG funds used to acquire property was needed in order to keep a business in the community. I do agree that it was questionable given the property owner but in the end it was the right move in order to keep that business in town. Iím certainly not a fan of our mayor but the $450k wasnít addition funds it was the reshuffling of monies between budget lines. The question is why was there overtime and the subsequent need to shuffle those funds; especially OT for salaried staff (i.e. mayorís office, treasurerís office). Pay closer attention to the Common Council, attend their meetings & also neighborhood meetings. Again, with two exceptions the Council has indeed stepped up to the plate (and not one @ the Iron Kettle!). Just my two cents tossed into the Kettle!

Brownie had budget transfers EVERY board of estimate meeting. Look back at the minutes. He always cut every department short. He had to rob Peter to pay Paul. Fusco reshuffled monies to make up for the lack of funding in brownies budget. Wake up Rogers and smith. Always the negative coming from your mouths. You know he had to do this.

Just for the record, Brown started his first year with $4.4 million in reserves. When he left office the reserves were down to $200,000. This is a fact - just look at the City's audited financials at 12/31/03 and 12/21/11. Sounds like poor fiscal management to me!

I congratulate the councilors who spoke up. Itís about time they did. The rest of them are only there to bobble head their way through in hopes of getting re-elected. As far as the budget goes past and present apparently what is on paper you apparently donít believe. Fusco is going through money like Grant went through Richmond. Rome is fastly becoming scorched earth. Fusco is like a kid in a candy shop with his spending. I will give you a few examples and my observations. Sorry but the CDBG money as someone pointed out was not used to keep a business open. The money was used to buy private homes in South Rome for a parking lot. Just what Rome needs is a parking lot in South Rome in an area in which is the last thing they need is a parking lot there? That is a waste since the city will no longer collect taxes on that property like they were before. Real smart planning, and use of those funds that could have been used to save a business. The homes belonged to a person who for years could not rent the houses because she claimed the vibrations from the mill forced her tenants out, and it caused damage to them. She finally hired engineers to try and validate her claim but they found there were no grounds for her claim. They told her it was not the mills but because the houses were old and the repairs were normal. She did not like the answers and went to Fusco about it when he was running for mayor. He promised if she helped him, and his people get into office he would take care of it. Well she did help by doing everything she could to get him, and Rogers in office, and he saw to it the homes were bought as pay back. That is misuse of the funds, and no that money was not used to keep a business open. As for the other poster who asked what he spent 600,000 on buying homes. No one said he did. Please read the paper. He spent the verified 600,000 surplus in the first few months he was in office, and been on a spending binge ever since. After that was gone he went back to get another 450,000 more from his hand picked board. The previous board he forced out within the first few months in office. He has in my opinion made a worse mess of Rome more than Brown ever did, and we are paying for it. No doubt any mayor has the right to hire who ever he want to be his staff. Agreed, but the people he hired are people that were fired for good cause. Why don't you ask then why they were fired? It was bad enough to warrant a confidential no-disclosure agreement. Is that bad enough for you? There was more to it than what was reported, and like always it was easier to settle the things out of court than to try and defend it. It might have required work on her part of our city lawyer, but that would have messed up her hair so things were done quietly. The mayor has hired people into positions they have little or no qualifications to hold, yet they are on the payroll. People have been put into position the previous administration felt were redundant or not needed. Fusco has seen to it his cronies have been hired to fill these positions for their political support. He rigged the BEC, Real property committees with people that are his buddies, and people who donít even live in Rome but are making decision that affects Rome. He has loaded just about all the positions with his yes people, and then no one questions why some of this shit is going on. How do you think he was able to get another 450,00 without going through the council, and yes other mayor have had to ask for more money, but it was done open and above board with the councilís knowledge. He has mis-use city property and yet no one followed through with doing anything about it, and his antics have been gone unchecked by a do nothing council. For the record NO I am not a Brownstain or a Fusco hater. I am a taxpayer, and I donít like what is going on.
