All I see is a loud mouth( you Roman) complaining, ranting, name calling and making yourself look like a uneducated POS that you probably are. Grow up, learn to speak or type like a decent person or go back to school earn a degree and learn respect. Also mainly try to be a better person in society.

Many cities in Nys have a combined full time, part time and vol fire staff. A comparison report should be done on this. We all know that they do a fine job. But do we require the staff of 80+? Most mutual logs related to fire Dept are emt related. There is a term used in the insurance business as being overinsured. It's like paying monthly for a 3 million dollar life insurance policy on a person who's total net worth is 60k. Full time also get benefits and pensions that really bloat the numbers. There needs to be a comparison study so this can be brought into balance.(or if I'm mistaken, justified for having as many as we do).

Everyone wants to cut the fire dept for a bit of extra cash, but when it's their house burning down, the story changes...QUICK.
Fact of the matter is, you're going to bitch that they are sleeping and wasting your precious money, but as a previous poster had stated, the trees and shrubbery are okay to plant around a city that has no respect for such beauty anyways. The RFD do a DAMN good job at making sure your friends, family, neighbors and loved ones are safe after a vehicle accident, or fire, or any cause for them to needed. So when you decide to cut the department, and your loved one suffers because there were not enough people to respond or there wasn't enough man power to get there quickly you can only blame yourself. I honestly hope you are NEVER in that position.

The only problem with that argument is that volunteer fire departments do the same thing for a fraction of the cost and they sleep in thier own communities in their own beds.

The argument is not about canning the fire Dept completely. Balance it out. This bit about needing them when your house is burning and you'll be sorry isn't cutting it. If my house is on fire, a volunteer fd would be coming anyway. Fear should not be a motive for keeping the number where it is today. If studies at similar cities justifies that however, then I would change my opinion based on those facts. We aren't reinventing a wheel here people. Learn what works elsewhere. Compare the Dept budgets. Get facts

But, fear is all some people have to offer. Look at Obama. I will admit though, his Romnesia quip was quite cute.

Maybe if the Mayor actually met with the fire department for a decent work session, they could have made realistic cuts.

I am not dissing volunteer firemen BUT Rome fire department has a response time of 2 minutes. Yes that is correct,2 MINUTES. Volunteers have to leave work, grab their gear and some have to actually go to the fire department before responding. I can tell you from experience when someone is having a stroke and you have to wait 10 minutes or longer it seems like eternity. 2 minutes!

I can tell you were they need to cut. The fire chief is the highest paid city employee at this time. He makes $90,000 a year before overtime. Look it up. After overtime he makes more than $100,000. OVERTIME? Why does he need to go in on the weekend to do a uniform order? He can easily do that during his regular work hours.

I think someone needs to replace their battery. 2 minutes? Maybe to pick up prime steaks at Mazzaferro's it takes them two minutes to respond, but listen to a scanner sometime. It's more like 15 minutes minimum for a typical response from the 9-1-1 shout out to RFD on scene. That's not bad actually, but 2 minutes. It takes more than two minutes to slide down a pole, put on gear, raise the doors and exit the building.
