Career bureacrats being overseen by career politicians: it's a perfect storm of corruption, waste and incompetence.

Frank is the man? Cut me a break. Where was he with all the thefts in the school district? No where to be found. Didn't want to get his buddies in trouble. Did he fight for lower school taxes while on the school board? No.
When the Comptroller found an extra $6 million dollars illegally placed in reserve accounts thoughout the school budget, did he fight to have that money be given back to the taxpayers? No. He stays silent so his friends on the board can spend it on a school that should have been closed.
Your school taxes are more than you city and county combined and Frank goes after the politicians.
How come Frank now wants people to believe he has seen the light on taxes? What committee head is open? Anyone know?

I know:

It's clear from your message that you have severe memory loss or you have no clue what you are talking about. Did you even watch any board meetings last year where I spoke to the board about reserve accounts and using them to balance the budget? Have you never heard me talk about Copper Free Academy?

You're making this stuff up, right? Get real.

Yea Frank I heard you talk about all this stuff. What I didn't hear was anything from you about all those accounts that were to be closed but weren't which allowed those guys to steal. I never heard you talk about what to cut to lower taxes involving the school system, city or county. I agree with you about reserve accounts being there for emergencies and not for balancing the budgets.
Where are your complaints about Mayor Brown using the city's reserve accounts to balance the city's budget?
I am real and I don't have to make this stuff up. Start telling us, the people, what to cut out of the budgets to lower our taxes. Get specific Frank and we will see if people remain supportive of what you say.

Fair enough -- you seek my recommendations on what to cut.

The answer on what to cut is best answered by school board members and their employees -- the school administrators. They understand the day-to-day operations in a lot more detail than I can by simply observing the monthly shows we call board meetings.

However, I do know the Rome district has too many teachers for the numbers of students that are enrolled, largely because of the inadequacies of older buildings with too-small classrooms we have. The infrastructure also places a greater burden of administrative and support personnel on the payroll.

To get the greatest bang for the buck, we need to cut the number of schools we have. Ideally, I believe 1 high school, 1 middle school and 4 maybe 5 elementary schools would best serve our needs and permit us to reduce staff. With more than 85% of the district's budget going to salaries, that's where you have to look to cut.

The renovated Stokes school, can the classrooms support 30 elementary students?
I listened to Jeff say how he wants the 15 to 20 elementary students per classroom. Even the older buildings can handle that class size. You know as well as I do that the district never spends enough on maintenance and up keep on our current buildings. It is always about letting them fall apart so it gets expensive enough to do a capital project that the state will help to pay.
I'll throw this out there for discussion. We have one high school. Strough for our middle school. Staley, Bellamy, Stokes, Joy and Ridge for elementary schools.
Let the discussion begin.
