On my way to work, 7:30am, I was driving by my young children's bus stop and it was piled up with snow from the snowplows/snowfall. I turned around, got my shovel, and shoveled it off so they don't have to wait in the DANGEROUS ROAD. I will do this every day it's needed so my 6 & 9 year olds can wait for the bus safely, BUT...being that it is the City/School/bus system that sets these 'designated' bus pick-up/drop-off spots, NOT ALLOWING THE KIDS TO BE PICKED UP IN FRONT OF THEIR OWN HOUSES WHERE THE SNOW IS CLEARED OFF AND THEY HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO WAIT OR GET DROPPED OFF, does anybody else think that because they MAKE our children wait on these specific corners, that they should be responsible for clearing the snow for the kids safety? Another thing, I don't let my 6 year old go past the neighbors house, let alone walk 2 BLOCKS AWAY to wait on some street corner for her pick-up/drop-off for school. THAT just seems bad in many ways.

I agree....they should be the ones making sure those stops are clear. I suggest an e-mail to the superintendent. Maybe you can make some progress. Good luck.

I also suggest that you tell the Superintendent that it is the school districts responsibility to erect waiting shelters with heat so that your children won't get cold on a winter day.

And walking two blocks to get the bus is crazy. Tell the Superintendent that you expect escorts for your children to walk them from your home to the bus stop shelter. All that walking will make your kids tired, so some snacks and beverages when they get to the shelter should be mandatory also.

You, are and idiot. Blowing the topic of children's safety into idiotic sarcasm is what we come to expect from some dummies from Rome, NY.
I also went through that with my kids when they rode the school bus. Best I can say is call the school and see if they can be picked up at your house, maybe just for the winter months, if the bus stop is too dangerous. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. It's at least worth a try. Good Luck!

So you have kids and it is now everyone elses problem? Why don't you wait with them in your car or drive them down to the bus stop? rearrange YOUR schedule.

The schools decide the pick up and drop off points, the buses follow their directions. They are in compliance with every state mandate. Write the governor and see if he cares.. You can also quit your job and home school them if they aren't bright enough to survive a two block walk and waiting for a school bus. Really? Kids have been doing it for years and I haven't heard much about fatalities.

Maybe you should put them in special education... Those kids get door to door service. It sounds like your little retards would fit right in...

I agree it is insane to even have the kids not picked up in front of their homes! They have to go to the corner and all get picked up together. NOT SAFE in any aspect. When my son started school int 2005 they wanted the kindergarteners to walk across the blvd to Fort Stanwix!!!!! We petitioned and this was the change... to the corner of your street. Today none of the city sidewalks were plowed for the kids walking to Strough but they were snowblowing the sidewalk by the old RFA. What the hell!

it's no where near right for elementary school kids to get picked up anywhere other than they're house...kids get abducted everyday or have they forgotten that...I don't think that are kids should be put in danger so the city can save a few bucks there's plenty of other places they can save money and our schools aren't one of them

Abducted everyday? In Rome? Who wants your ghetto children? Start naming off these "abducted" Rome kids, start with today's abduction since it happens "everyday".

The rich kids get door to door service.

Who cares about the future public assistance abusers?
