LOS ANGELES, February 22, 2013—President Obama is getting angrier by the day with Republicans for agreeing with him. He demanded sequestration, and has now been sequestered into a corner.

For the uninitiated, sequestration is a series of automatic spending cuts set to kick in on March 1st. Due to years of profligate spending by Congress and the White House, elected leaders realized they were unable to lead. Sequester was meant to be so painful that it would force hard choices to be made. Now the day of reckoning is here.

In truth, there are no cuts at all. Spending actually increases under the sequester at a mildly obscene level instead of a greater obscene level.

Because even the slightest “restraint” in spending conflicts with the Obama agenda of massive social spending, the only solution left is to demonize Republicans for the Obama agenda. The problem with this strategy is that the people finally realize that the spendaholics are the ones needing restraint, not the ones trying to stave off American bankruptcy.

Even if the sequester horror stories were truthful, it would not matter.

Fired teachers? Good. Start with anybody teaching lesbian vegan Chicano studies. In fact, anybody not teaching a real subject that will eventually allow students to get real jobs should not be teaching. Mathematics professors can stay. Ethnic grievance studies professors can lead campus protests on their own dime.

Fired TSA Agents? How will Americans ever survive without unqualified airport “security” personnel failing to stop real terrorists like the Christmas Day Bomber while successfully targeting wheelchair bound ladies with knitting apparel? If Obama cares about “the children,” he can afford to get rid of a few ogres who harass babies in the name of political correctness.

Even the military has fat in it, and it is time to start prioritizing. Money for armor and weapons can stay. Money for diversity training can go. Any military dollar not spent on helping our soldiers kill bad people, break things, and protect Americans from being killed and broken is worthwhile. Everything else is liberal nonsense.

All the sequester does is force priorities to actually matter.“Mattering” is defined as something that actually benefits people’s lives. The test is easy. If it is a liberal priority, it does not matter.

I also feel congress should be furlough for not doing their jobs, but they can vote themselves a pay raise. They should give up pay one day a week for as long as it takes to balance the budget.

compare welfare to the military. When wellies get up at 4am to run 5 miles with a 50 pound back pack, live for days outside doing their business in a hole they dug themselves, sleeping without shelter, putting their life in the line to protect people they never met, not seeing their family for up to a year at a time and not by choice, then you can compare the two.

Some of you people don't get it do you? Our military is one of the most under paid people in the country, but they are usually the first to get hit with cuts. People on welfare make more than these people do. If uncle sam wants to save money then cut some if not all the bennies the Congress and Senate get. Cut out all the pork barrel projects these people hide in legislation they pass. Leave the military alone, because the last time I heard there is not too many IED's at the local McDonalds.

I highley dought people on welfare make 40000 to start like a lt does or retire on 45000 like a chief does..or 145000 plus benifits like a general does...it's there choice to stay in the military...don't whine about it!

Ok Roman so what your saying is a military starting out who makes $1510 a month for say family of three and works for that money is more of a drain on society than $425 rent,$250, National Grid,$150 cash,$325 food stamps for filling out an app and sitting home all day. What do wellies contribute? I know what the military contributes.

You must be one of those lazy slobes that works at AFRL and thinks there entitled. Your not! You dont produce a thing. You just spend taxpayer money. How many conferences did you attend this year, how many were in las vegas or florida. You deserve to get furloughed.

Let's all not lose sight of the fact that active duty military will be exempt from furlough after sequestration takes effect. The over all impact will be on approximately 800K federal civilians to cut $85M (or approx. 2% of overall budget).

Immediate impact was yesterday's release of 100s of illegal immigrants. Tomorrow will be TSA cutbacks which will result in massive delays at major airports during peak flight times and closure of smaller regional airports. That's to name a few.

Silver lining: Biden will now take Amtrak to his home state of Delaware instead of Air Force 3 which costs thousands.

What a crock. This all boils down to bi-polar, bi-partisanship. Sequestration was the preznit's idea and now the house and senate are holding him to the mat.

Furloughs will not be good for anyone and is a ploy.

They may not be furloughed but the ones overseas now are being told their tours will be extended at least 6 months. The cuts will prevent the training of new troops.

I find it short sighted that the right-leaning posters in this discussion seem to be only concerned with the effects the sequester will have on the military.
What about the 19 year old single mom? Regardless of how she found herself alone, raising a child, there was a least government aid in childcare for her while she finished high school
Now she wishes to get a job and support her and her infant, but costs of childcare will eat her entire check.
So, she wishes she could go to college, get a degree and be offered the opportunity to compete for a great job that will enable her to get off food stamps and send her child to college someday on her own merits of being able to repay student loans.
Currently, there are actually programs available for her to do just that, and it eats a hole in the Republicans underwear.
They would rather cut funding for those programs, and keep her on food stamps so they can b!tch about it for the next 50 years.
It's called, "teaching a person to fish" (in biblical terms).
When that 19 year old Mom starts carring a gun in a combat zone then I will worry. Don't tell me she can't find a job, get her education, and apply for student loans like many of us did. There are jobs all they have to look for them, and do like the rest of us did and apply for them and stop the poor me crap. Just some people expect to walk into a 50,000 a year job, and then cry when they don't get it. Instead they blame the government, and everyone else for their situation. However, that situation is typical of today's kids. They spred their legs for anyone who says they loves them, or a few hits off their pipe, and you see the results every day on Dominick St. Most of them could not tell you who the baby daddy is, but that too is normal for today's kids. Their parents can take half the blame for it, for not teaching their kids to be responsibile in the first place. In most cases the parents are doing the same thing so what do you expect from the kids. The kids is just folowing the example set by the parents and you see what happens when she tells the low life boy friend whats up. He takes off, and finds someone else to bang and leaves her holding the bag, and the parents throw the kid out for the same thing they are doing. In that case the government should should step in and make a law that requires the parents to provide half the support for them, and the person respnsible for knocking her up be nutured. End of problem for that. Now thats a law I can support. The rest of it is horse hockey so save the cry me a river for the Oprah show.

I think every American should turn there backs on
Congress for the mess they have cause America. Everything that happens now doesn't effect them at all. There pay doesn't change and they don't lose 20% or get furloghed like the rest of the Government.
