Tuition reimbursement is a maximum of $4,500. I dislike him also but stick to the facts.

Is the reimbursement $4,500 per year or $4,500 over the three year period? Doctorate degrees aren't cheap.

From what I have read $4,500 over the three year period if he chooses to get his doctorate. Also this raise would make his salary fall in the middle compared to surrounding school districts. Again I don't like it either but people shouldn't exaggerate the truth.

Jeff gets a raise while teachers were just facing lay offs and have to worry if they have a job come fall, NOT RIGHT.
Jeff is over paid for the little he does, remember he has 3 assistants to do his job for/ with him. They have the teachers working with an expired contract now for a year and Pat feels he boy needs a raise... NO!
Notice she is sneaking this in and it isn't for us tax payers to vote on or voice our opinion. Where does this fit in he new budget, that we just voted on twice?
Get rid of Jeff and all his buddies in the district office and see how much money we have for our KIDS Education. The high pay checks at district office that are killing our kids education. We parents and taxpayers need to make the Super and his buddies put our kids first and take pay freezes just like they asked the teachers to do.

DON'T JUST TALK ABOUT IT ON TOPIX...BOE CONTACT INFO IS PUBLIC INFORMATION. CALL THEM ALL TODAY AND TELL THEM HOW YOU FEEL. THEN, GO TO THE BOARD MEETING TONIGHT AND LET THEM KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.
IF YOU CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO DO THIS, THEN DON'T COMPLAIN IF IT GETS PASSED IN THIS UNDERHANDED MANNER.
CALL BOE PRESIDENT AND LET HER KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS OBVIOUSLY UNDERHANDED MOVE....ONE OF MANY!!!!!!!

Overpaid - under worked - 160 g a year is over $80 per hour - WTF!!

I think it is time to make one of the assistants the supt or just eliminate the position and let the school board make up the budget - get the districts law firm to review and submit contract issues/ negotiations or whatever mundane crap that Simons is supposed to be overseeing.

And when will a full time employee bringing down $160,000 a year have time to attend college let alone study? If a doctorate degree is required the district should post for the position - try a salary of $100 G. I bet there would still be a number of qualified interested parties.

As a supt / manager of the Rome School System, Simons has failed miserably. Drop out rate is high, performance is low, discipline is a joke. In a private company setting he would have been fired years ago.

Please call the BOE members the numbers are on the back of the school calendar.. I have spoken with and left messages for those I couldn't reach. We need to get rid of Jeff and Make sure our kids are put first. Our kids can't afford to get hurt any more with Jeff in charge. Good riddens Pat about time we are rid of her.

Did you see the grad. rate compared to other districts in the area? most other districts are in the 80-90% range but Rome comes out at 74%.

The students fault?? Not hardly! The school district should look at the demographics and formulate programs that appeal to the students that they are serving. Academic programs and courses for those who aspire to go on to further education, meaningful vocational programs for those who chose to go into the work force upon graduation. BOCES is available and should be promoted for teaching basic industry related skills. Perhaps specialized classes at RFA in similar hands on training areas is an option.
The students should not all be herded into college prep or vocational areas. They should get a good overall education foundation and then, when they have an idea of what they want to do with their lives, an intensive program directed at the individuals goals.
Management - sic - the superintendent - should be held directly accountable for the success or failure of each student. We as tax payers invest in each and every student, those who go on to productive careers and those who decide that school is not worth devoting their time to and drop out.
If students are dropping out and or not succeeding in grades, is it really the students fault or is the lack of direction and motivation a symptom of a broken system that needs overhauling. If the latter, the management - superintendent on down to principals and vice principals - are to blame.
We send our children to school to learn. The atmosphere at the school must change to encourage and promote change. Why not institute a school dress code, even better, a school uniform. Do not allow students to drive to / from school. If they are on the bus lines, ride the bus.
Provide some incentives to doing well at school. Develop some programs that develop civil pride, pride in self, pride in community.
These are some things a competent superintendent should be concerned with, not a 3 G plus raise every year or furthering of his own personal status with a doctorate degree at the expense of the school district.

unfortunately he has at least 5!!!!!!

Bombard the ones who voted yes with phone calls and emails and let them know how you feel about their decision!

Can this resolution be overturned by the new board July 1st

These board members are cowards!!!!!!!

This resolution cannot be overturned. Too bad. good idea to continue to let the BOE members that voted yes know how you feel about the vote!

What do you want when you vote in a school secretary as president. Her whole career was to serve under an administrator. Obviously, she was unable to realize her current position was supposed to be the opposite. She thinks Jeff is her boss. WHAT A JOKE!!!

Positively Rome!!!!(for sure)

Come here for the quality of our school leadership and outstanding city leadership (is the mayor an under-qualified mayor or an over-qualified gravedigger??) POSITIVELY ROME!
