It's a ploy to attract federal aid of some kind ... the designation makes them elligible for additional FAA or Homeland Security funding?

One airplane from Canada flew in there a few years ago so that qualifies them for the International designation.

Who would think it would be that simple?

I prefer collier's suggestion. I would spend more time at the roundabout if that were the name.

I haven't seen any aircraft there other than a couple of USAF from McGuire, and a bunch of little Cesnas. Haven't seen any Russian or Indian....or come to think of it Saudi Arabian ones there either. There was one Brazilian one there at one time....looked like it was a junker. Why don't you tell me all you know Dog? Seeings how the rest of us here know nothing? Tell me all about the big bad airbase and how it's gonna save the County.

an intergalactic airport could be cool... but is the runway big enough for a starship or space traffic? im concerned. perhaps we should consider an intergalactic roundabout???

Recently, there have been aircraft from Canada, Mexico, Russia and Greece at the airport. I guess that qualifies it as "international."

They should move that airport to Taberg, nobody wants to fly to Rome . We have the swimming hole at fish crick, what does Rome have? a wooden fort with people wearin funny little costumes, heck I hear the mule passed away that towed the crickity boat down that turd infested swamp u call the eeeriiiie canal.

An 'International' airport within the United States, usually has customs/immigration on field. A few, however, do not - such as Gary/Chicago Int'l. KRME actually has a very large amount of international traffic. Empire Aero serves as a base for many of int'l air carriers to have aircraft refurbished and certain maintenance work performed. The airport used to be home to B-52's, which served as a perfect airport due to location and length of rwy (11820 x 200). Now with the B-52's gone, it is a civilian airport with a good amount of transient military aircraft. It is a pleasure of an airport to fly into, and the controllers there have always been great to me. It currently houses flight training, maintenance/avionics, and many corporate/business aircraft.

Hope this helps!
