and you obviously don't know much about UCP either because no matter what agency you work for there are scum out there that are abusing disabled people because they are an easy target and most of the times the ones that are abused can't talked. So don't be hating on one agency because someone is stating there is abuse going on because it happens at all. UCP is no exception.

AP News and NY Times have exposed this corrupt OPWDD agency.
Governor Cuomo wants the abusers behind bars and is hiring special prosecutors to get it done!
Lookout CNYDDSO because you are in Governor Cuomo's crosshairs and he is going to close the cesspool down and privatize everything!

I get that a few bad eggs have slipped by and yes those scumbags should be punished for any abuse they've cause on an individual but it's everywhere. There's bad people in the world doesn't mean the whole scope of DDSO should be shut down. It's scare tactics at best. Is it always a good thing to blindly listen to mainstream media? It's not like they ever exaggerate circumstances for a story or agenda.... Politics and conspiracy theories aside I have worked for/ been interviewed by several of these local private agencies before being hired by the state. The level of care at the private agencies does not even compare to what we give at the state. The rigorous hiring process (state exam, interview, drug testing, blood tests, hearing test, physical agility and strength test, psychological exam, etc..) and in depth class/ on the job training (approx 20 days) leaves us qualified and equipped to perform our duties. The knowledge of our individuals allows us to be more confident in what we do. Compensation/ benefits are also much better w/ the state allowing it's employees to focus on this one job. The private agencies pay far less, have little to no benefits, minimum training and usually only hire entry level employees at part time. This would require many private organization employees to have 2 or more jobs just to get by. When interests are divided between jobs and employees are underpaid, overtired/overworked how well do you think the care is for the individuals? Being employed with the state allows me and many others to focus only on our people, the decent compensation allows me to not need to work 60 hrs a week or have multiple jobs, and the confidence instilled throughout the extensive training allows me to be something most people can not, a hand for those in need and a voice for those who have none
