New meat packing plant for 1212 East Dominick still has to be approved and I support it. More jobs and cheaper prices for food plus more money in our community is a good thing. It also is in a part of Rome almost no one cares about. In the shape Rome is we need more jobs

Added jobs, & taxes. What are we waiting for? Sounds great. What kind of approval is needed?

How many houses are around it? Almost none. Same with businesses. Some people are trying to call it a slaughter house also, like it has a pig farm attached to it for slaughter.

I live a few hundred feet away from that building and think it would be just fine. Rome needs jobs.

How about we not support the businesses that don't support having new jobs that have these petitions like best pizza. Why is that? Might be cutting into their business?...

If they are producing meat for human consumption, then yes, there will be a slaughterhouse there. And stockyard pens. And, according to the article in the paper, at least 10 truckloads of cattle per day coming in.

While I agree that the jobs are needed, I wonder if 1212 East is the best location in Rome for the plant. During the hot and humid days of summer, you'll be smelling that place all over downtown.

I know someone who has a meat processing plant sixty miles away from where he currently lives and he has said that on a hot day with the right wind he can smell the plant. Remember it's not just the truck and animal smells......but the smell of death and decay right in the city.......what happens if there is an accidental spill or whatever........it will stink up the city for weeks........I guarantee people will not be able to handle all the other stuff that comes with the paying jobs and bigger tax base........

Kinda smells like the WELFARE office. THIS CITY NEEDS JOBS!!!!!!! You defeatists spewing your useless and vague totalities are a sad lot. Modern state of the art meat processing plants are highly regulated. You cant FART around here without the D.E.C. taking air samples, and fining you $100,000 because you had eggs for breakfast and it smells to much like sulpher. I am not saying your fears are without merit, but please dont dismiss the whole idea without more research.

Tony's on Jay St. Has a petition on the counter against it. I will stop eating there now. Also the sewage plant, should I have to say anything about that. Maybe the meat packing plant will cover up that smell since so close to it.
