Whaaaah? Serving his country? Where did you find that?

What he did was monumentally stupid. I hope he recovers. But your take on this dumb accident is exactly the opposite of the reported story. I wonder if we're talking about the same incident.

The state has established a toll-free tip line – 1-855-GUNSNYS (1-855- 486-7697) to encourage residents to report illegal firearm possession. The tip line also allows for information to be submitted via text – individuals can text GUNTIP and their message to CRIMES (274637). While the state will provide the administrative support and fund the rewards, the investigation and validity of the tip will be up to each local department.

Instead of finding fault with this boy please pray for him the injury is much more serious than the public is aware of. This was a tragic ACCIDENT and he did nothing wrong. Thank you "WOW" for your statement. We need to help this boy get back to his former life as a hard working mature young man serving in the Army and fire department. He has so much to offer and is loved and respected by so many. We could only hope that there were more kids like him.

Your so right thank god he is a live. An he is a good guy. But i don't believe for a second that the guns safety was on. Of course he is going to say it was on. But being a firearm handler an hunter my whole life. You should know NEVER NEVER NEVER rope a gun up a tree with a shell in chamber an then you wouldn't have do worry about safety. NOW THAT A FACTS ON HANDLING GUNS. HOPEFULLY THEY TAKE HIS FOR A WHILE TILL HE LEARNS HOW TO HANDLE THEM. APPARENTLY THE ARMY DIDN'T TEACH HIM GUN SAFETY.

Accidents do happen , but this wasn't an accident . It was laziness a disregard for safety . There should have been no rounds in the gun while tying the gun on to the rope. The safety on a gun is not to be regarded as 100% safe against a gun discharging. Unload crossing streams, fences , unattended guns etc..Use your brains you don't get second chances.

clicking your safety off while in the field is like unzipping your pants in the public library

Its gives your position away and makes everyone feel a little uncomfortable.

bye bye youall

I believe that good things do come out of bad "beauty out of the ashes". Out of this accident many seasoned hunters that become too comfortable and careless have had a wake up call. He was very smart to let someone know his exact location in the woods prior to the accident. As a result he received assistance in a timely manner that saved his life. Think abour it hunters! Much time would have been lost searching a wooded area otherwise. We are all guilty of not taking precautions seriously ex power tools safety glasses, cell phones while driving. Let the one without fault cast the first stone. Continue to pray for his full recovery.
