I've been disappointed in the gifted services for the Academy & middle school at Bremen. Not much offered!

Bremen seems to be the winner. Like a number of you, I remember the "old" Carrollton High that was just a bit cliquey but a great school. The city of Carrollton as well as its school system seems to have outgrown that but Bremen has not ... A trade-off I suppose ...

I'm a graduate of Bremen and my children chose Carrollton. Actually they're both fine institutes, it just depends on what you want for your student. I prefer Carrollton because it just has more to offer academically, athletically, & socially. Bremen doesn't have the diversity or the competition a student is going to be exposed to after graduation. The reason test scores are lower in Carrollton is because Carrollton has students that don't speak English & theyre given their test IN ENGLISH. When comparing test scores you MUST compare apples to apples. There really isn't a comparison between Bremen & Carrollton. Carrollton is 4A school & Bremen is a 2A. If you want your child to go through school without competition or any diversity then Bremen is your school. However, it is a "who's who" school and VERY POLITICAL. If you don't mind that or like that it will be great. I personally wanted something MORE for my children. I don't want them growing up thinking they're SOMEBODY they're NOT. If you want to play a sport, you try out with 100's not 30. If you're going to be SOMETHING in life youve got to work for it. But don't let ANYONE fool you NO school system is perfect. NO PERSON is perfect. Just last year or year before one of Bremen's teachers was arrested for having a "meth" house. My daughter tells me the Bremen cheerleaders all smoke pot. I'm sure there's plenty of kids out there making stupid decisions in Carrollton & Bremen. You've just got to do what's BEST for YOUR child.

As far as the high schools in both these systems, I have attended Bremen and Carrollton. I now go to Bremen and I am a cheerleader. There is plenty of competition and diversity. I assure you I do not smoke pot and I'm not aware of other cheerleaders at Bremen that do, but like any school there are kids that make the wrong decision. At Carrollton I didn't get close one on one time with teachers that I do at Bremen. As far as discipline issues, there is no comparison, mostly because its hard to get away with something when the teachers, vice principals, and principal know every student personally and their parents. Although it is just like the classic cliché school in which the football players date the cheerleaders and the seniors constantly enforce seniority, all the students are very caring for one another and no one is shunned because they aren't in a certain "clique".
I also think this "thug drug" nonsense is hilarious. Both schools, well every school, has students that drink or do drugs. The fact that one of our teachers was arrested for meth is irrelevant because of course she is not a teacher anymore. Students are called year round for random drug tests and required to take a class in which we learn the dangers and consequences of those illegal activities.

Wow! There may be hope for BHS yet. You did a very nice job with the contrast and realities at both schools.

I hear interesting things about all the Carroll/Bremen schools. In fact, I have noticed many Georgia schools have interesting things going on... Ever heard of Atlanta public schools?
I don't mean to poo poo on education, but every school I hear about has some kind of problem. Try to escape it, and you'll be on a life long search.
Got your nose stuck everywhere don't you. Go bak to Hillsville HICK.

Carrollton City is real life. Maybe more divere than many would like but if you're basing your child's education on who they're sitting by then you get what you deserve when your "perfect" child ends up an addict at age 16. Of course money can hush that up too.
I will say that Carrollton takes care of their own. Admin actually cares and in recent years has taken a drastic turn around for the better. I know teachers there that wouldn't work anywhere else

My friend told me to look on here to read about a different topic, and I was compelled to comment on this. Carrollton is an excellent school with real world issues. Interesting to me is the fact that Bremen bashes Carrollton every chance they get- Carrollton doesn't appear to do this so much. What does Bremen have to hide? Are they trying to get more students for the tuition? As a community I support the local schools. I am appalled that in a day of so much turmoil that the people on here bash the schools. Look at the state salary schedules. Salaries have decreased for the last 3 years, yet Carrollton keeps para pros in the classrooms, technology going and improving, programs are added for the students best interest. This is much harder to do in a big district.
Carrollton is also more diverse and comparing CRCT scores is ridiculous as Bremen is hand picking students. Carrollton serves an inner city population and has made gains in that regard. If your child is going to stay in Bremen and never live in the real world maybe that's the place to go. your child will get a good education. If your child plans on living in the real world with diversity then I recommend Carrollton. A parent's attitude and demeanor in regards to education is what will shape the success of a child.
I gladly will keep paying the now $500 non resident fees to attend Carrollton. If you're worried Sunfish, don't be. Just stay involved.

Very, very true. Bremen doesn't want outsiders. They say that all of the time.
