It takes money to make money . Mr. McDonald needs these SPLOST funds to put Polk County on the economic map .
The Commissioners should cut funding in other areas to honor the authorities request for this small amount .
Wise up commissioners ,put our tax dollars in the hands of those who know how to spend it. You sure as HE-- don,t.

A breakdown of what the SPLOST dollars would be spent for was on the ballot when the voters of Polk County approved the SPLOST. If there was no amount alloted for Economic Development on the ballot then the Commissioners should abide by the law and spent the SPLOST money the way it was presented to the voters. The commissioners should not have authority to change what was already decided on by the voters.

We need something like the music hall in Bremen not something that is going to put tractor trailers on our roads

Spec building brings in buisness , tractor trailers on the roads means people are working. Every one that has been built in Rockmart are now operating buisnesses and employing hundreds.

They have a job , beats walking the streets. And both do make pretty good money according to where it is. I guess the people at the Breman music hall make it all........That's really what they need to spend tax money on , a music hall.......

I agree with "Been Around" The Commissioners better review the Breakdown for SPLOST Monies. Of course, they will do whatever it takes to BEND THE LAW. Expect a tax increase from School Board, County and City they have made all the cuts possible and you can not continue to spend money you do not have...

If the Republicans would join President Obama and approve another stimulus package our economy would get better. Tax the rich to help the poor . Look at main street after the stimulus payed for new side walks and parks .All the vacant building are full now. Thanks to the leadership of a DEMOCRAT.

How many of those jobs "created" by a spec building went to Mexicans? Ride by Tip Top at shift change. Don't see too many non-hispanic workers there. Then, the school system has to pay money to hire ESOL teachers because the hispanic kids dont speak English.

Taxpayer money went to buildings for companies to hire non-native workers and then taxpayers have to spend more money to educate their kids. Add in welfare benefits and the cost of crime attributible to our new "citizens", and another spec building sounds like a losing proposition to me.

Oh, and don't get me started on the Streetscape project, where our government tore up perfectly good concrete so they can pour new concrete.

Meanwhile, there are other sidewalks in town that are in disrepair due to tree roots pushing them up and potholes that have been in the street for two or three years now.

But all the former and current mayors and councilmen who own downtown property got a nice facelift for their store buildings.

Priorities people.

BTW, businesses are not expanding right now due to the economy. If they do, let them build their own damn building.

Tip Top was not a spec building , they built their own building. Look at Jefferson Southern , Angelica and the other one across the street. All 3 of these were spec buildings and employ several people from Rockmart and Cedartown. Tip Top and the chicken industry are the top employers of Hispanic people. You can can thank the old Zartic plant for most of the influx in Polk county.

Hispanic people are only taking jobs that Whites and Blacks are to "GOOD" or to "LAZY" to do .
Their work ethics are far superior to today,s generation of American,s spoiled brat millennial s . Without the Hispanic labor force who the hells going to pluck the chickens , cut the grass , lay the brick , and do all the jobs that require hard work and sweat for low pay . This country would grind to a halt in "NO TIME" without them. They deserve the AMNESTY their about to get .

So what you're sayin is that even though they have broken the law by being here, the "good" they do somehow offsets their illegal action?

If that's true, then why not legalize random shootings in the ghettos for the probability of bagging a felon.... same logic.... kinda stupid huh? Your statement, not mine :-)

Mr. Burruss bought land over in Flint Hill to build cook plant. But decided to buy the SPEC building instead. Tip Top does have Hispanics,Whites and Blacks. Tip Top is the largest plant of it's kind. It oozes money out of there everyday. Like 25 million a year. I happen to know white and black people who have retired from there. Some are still employed. Zartic could'nt hold a candle to Tip Top Poultry. Google it! The Marietta Plant started in the late 1940's. Still running strong. If you have ever ate processed chicken, you can bet it was Tip Tops. Ever heard of Swanson..Tyson..Gordon Foods..Top Bee..Campbells..Sexton..and BTW, Americans try everyday to get a job up on that hill...cause they ain't none. People will go where the work is. And yes, I worked there for 10 years. I was proud of my job. Loved it! That job feed me and my kids for many, many years. I learned a lot working there. I have nothing but fond memories. I am a PROUD TIP TOPPER! And NO I was not a chicken plucker! Rockmart Div. is a cook plant.

They don't deserve anything in this country if they are here illegally. They deserve to be arrested and deported. Look how many are on Polk Crime Examiner for driving drunk and without a license. Maybe they can have your job. And the reason they cut your grass and lay your brick is because they will do it for less than minimum wage and the scum that hire them are helping create the problem.

Yep my neighbor across the way has a bunch of them out every Saturday to do one thing or another. They cannot even speak English, except for one. They must have other jobs during the week.
However, lately I don't see them and wonder if they have moved on.

Jefferson southern was not a spec building either, it was built from the ground up by the japs. The bought the land and had an office in town while the building was being built. muira however was a spec building and was for a year or so before more japs bought it.
