I am very thankful that this rider is ok and will heal.
Thank you to the first responders BUT I really can't understand why they would take him in an ambulance all the way to Rockmart to meet a helicopter for a thirty minute helicopter ride to Atlanta when they could have been at a trauma center with excellent neuro services in about 17 minutes from Cedartown???? If they had to use a helicopter why not let it land in the huge parking lot near the wreck scene????
Sorry to question but I just dont understand and that could be me or my family next time.

I can answer a couple of questions. From what police have told me, the reason they took him to Rockmart to meet the chopper was to save time waiting for the chopper to come to Cedartown. There are other factors besides flight time involved..like getting an available landing space, where the air lift is coming from law enforcement to set up a landing zone and traffic.
In this case, the helicopter was coming from the south in Atlanta or even further south, so it made sense to cut the time to meet them. Minutes were saved from waiting them to come further north and in travel time flying to Atlanta.
Also, law enforcement from Rockmart and the sheriff's office were able to assist in setting up the landing zone because they weren't involved in helping with the accident in Cedartown. Here, all available manpower was being used on the scene to handle the accident and traffic and couldn't break away to get a landing zone ready.
Can't say as to why they went to Atlanta versus somewhere closer. That could be a contract between the air lift group and the hospitals. It could be that the closer hospital doesn't have a helicopter landing pad.

Sounds like a simple 5th grade math class word problem to me. I guess "Thankful" you failed math.

On here questioning college educated people's plan of action. Do you know how many people are involved in this process? Do you think they made the decision on the fly? Heck no, they have plans and procedures for these emergencies. Dummy.

Your just an ass. I will never understand why a person feels the need to make someone feel bad about themselves. Not everyone knows all the answers to all things in life. That's why they ask to get answers.

They actually do make these decisions on the fly so to speak, each call is different and that determines which transport path is taken, I really didn't see the point in flying them from Rockmart but that was up to the medic in charge.
