Amen to that, nee!!!!

i'm not sure whatall the fuss is about...from what i've read, this change has been nothng more than an exchange of who manages the facilties (not the quality of care).

from the posts on here it sounds to me like it's just a bucnh of disgruntled employees from one or the othere.

now before everyone jumps my case about my comments, please know that i DO NOT have a dog in this hunt and may not be privvy to all the details, but i have read everything about the change in the papers and it seems pretty innocuous to me.

the one thing i did notice is that the floyd group provides for indigent care whereby the redmond group did not. that seems like a pretty good thing since this region of the state is one of the poorest in the nation.

doctors and nurses all have to go thropugh the same training....so i don;t care what hospital they are affiliated with, as long as they are competent and have a sound process in place to oversee heathcare (emergency and routine) that is efficient, ethical, compassinate and thorough.

it's not who runs the thing as much as it is about services to the patients and a positive outcome (health, costs, recovery).

lastly, whether it's redmond or floyd, they should be held accountable for being a gracious, corporate community citizen.......if redmond only wants to treat patients that have insurance and/or can pay, then it seems floyd might be the right group for this region at this time (maybe not in the way ahead future, but for right now).

now i've spoken out of school becuase i am not a healthcare professional.....just a patient new to the area. so please, don't attack me for my ignorance or naievete (sp?) about this situation.......so if you respond, please do so with facts, reasoned discourse, and by doing so enlighten me and others who read your replies so we are better informed about why there is disagreement on the subject.

Floyd takes over the hospital tomorrow and time will tell if they are going to make some good changes for healthcare in Polk county. From what I have heard the staff at Polk Medical are excited about this change and they are ready to see healthcare expand here. Redmond had been here for fifteen years and nothig has changed.I will hold my judgement here until I give Floyd about six months to see what they have done to improve.
As far as Floyd ambulances, I am glad to see them coming. The competitition is always good because we get better and cheaper services when there is competition.
I will sit on my front porch and watch the excitement!

Not sure of price difference but I am sure that the new competition will drive down the price. Kinda like McDonalds vs Burger king and their 99 cent price wars. Competition is always good!
In this case though - my opinion is that Floyd is compared to Chick Fil A - consistent and alot nicer.
Thats just my opinion so dont go jumping all over me

I respect everyone else's opinion.

MY opinion is formed because Floyd has NEVER worked with me to pay my bills. I'm uninsured (not by choice) and it's a 3 month, 6 month or 12 month deal. If it wasn't paid by then, it went to collectors. Even though that's not legal as long as I'm making a payment.

Redmond worked with me completely and as long as I make SOME kind of payment, I'm good. They accepted $2 in nickels from me one time because that's all I had.

I have been there too but just the opposite. I set up 12 months of payments at Floyd and couldnt make the payments so I went in and filled out a form and they stated I met restricted income status, not eligible for completely indigent, but low income and they wrote off about 80% of my bills and were very nice about it. But I have a Redmond urgent care doctor bill and they demanded that I pay the 145.00 within 90 days or else.

I was told by a PMC employee that officals from Floyd told them to send all heart pts to Floyd. Well Redmond is the Heart Center for NW GA. If I was having a heart attack I would want to be sent to Redmond. Where they specialize in the Heart. Floyd can only offer heart cats, stress tests and stints. If you have a stint they transfer you to Redmond anyway. So why have three bills? PMC, FMC and then Redmond. Plus the different ambulance costs? This could cost people their lives. And a nurse told me this. Even some of them didnt understand this procedure or process.

aw hell,I forgot to mention that after submitting one piece of paper to redmond, i was approved for charity because my income is so freaking low...and even with such low income, i don't qualify for ANY govt assistance. Floyd said I didn't qualify for any write offs.

I'm wondering if it's just who we talk to and with what attitude we go in with.

If you have a cath at Floyd, you HAVE to be se t to Redmond for ALL Heart surgeries! It completely ridiculous to send a chest pain or Heart patient to Floyd. They will DEFINATLEY end up at Redmond. And you are right, why 3 bill from 3 hospitals and multiple ambulance bills.
Stupid Polk County Hospital Authority.
I'm sure Floyd County tax payers Love fitting the bills for a hospital in another county that they will never ever use!

You obviously dont have a clue about what you are talking about. The ONLY patients that have to go to Redmond are those that require open heart surgery and the patients that require open heart today are 1 in 90 so I choose to go to Floyd and see the same heart doctors thyat I used to see at Redmond.
Besides I got mail today from my insurance Blue Cross that says Redmond dont accept my insurance anymore so I have to go to Floyd.

BlueCross BlueShield of Georgia officials say they are still hoping to sign a contract with the Hospital Corporation of America, the parent company of Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome and Cartersville Medical Center, to keep them as an in-network provider for health care service.

Some BCBS customers received a letter this week stating the insurance provider was notified by HCA that the contract had been terminated effective May 1.

That meant customers who used an HCA hospital could be charged by HCA for “over and above your plan allowance,” the letter said.

For HMO members, that means they have to use an in-network provider or be responsible for the full bill. For POS/PPO members, the share of out-of-network services would be greater.

The letter also included a list of alternative hospitals patients could use.

Redmond spokeswoman Callie Andrews said negotiations are still ongoing, and they were confident they would reach an agreement before the May 1 deadline.

In a prepared statement, BCBS officials said:“Although we are currently negotiating with HCA, HCA has chosen to terminate its hospital contracts with BCBSGa effective May 1, 2012, before negotiations have been fully exhausted. BCBSGa has ensured that the services rendered at HCA hospitals are available at other quality in-network area hospitals.”

I think it's great for Polk. How many Redmond urgent cares, immediate cares do you see scattered around? None. Floyd has such facilities around everywhere and in several different counties. I think when the new Floyd Polk Medical center is built between Cedartown and Rockmart, alot of folks from Bartow and Paulding may come receive treatment here at Polk.

The Floyd ambulances are ALREADY in Polk County...on the east side. Redmond covers the west side. Fortunately if you'd rather have Redmond (like I would) you can request them instead of Floyd.

Ok like mistic stated I do not have a dog in this fight so please do not bite my head off for this... Everyone has excellent points here! Just a slight tid bit though. Floyd is a not for profit organization. They receive funding assistance from the state and federal grants to continue indigent care.. They do not take any tax dollars to operate but they do put back in tax revenues for Floyd county and now will do so in Polk. Floyd EMS does not provide coverage for either side of the county, they simply offer you a choice. They are 2 full-time ALS ambulance in Rockmart, a full time ALS and a 12 hr ALS in Cedartown simply offering the choice.. If a patient comes to Polk and has to be transferred to Rome Floyd Hospital they will not receive an ambulance bill for the transport since it's illegal to double dip just like Redmond did. And for that matter Redmond has transferred hundreds of patients from Polk to Floyd hospital over the yrs. I'm a fan of both hospitals but for different reasons naturally. The competition in Polk County will only benefit the citizens since both organizations will strive to one up the other to retain it's customers. Again please be gentle with this. I'm not pro Redmond or Floyd. I'm only pro best care and great staff regardless of where it comes from. Thank you!

Well put Either or. The new hospital that will be built will have an operating room as well as alot of other tools that will benefit patients in Polk. Having this new, state of the art hospital will hopefully keep patients that reside here in Polk coming to Floyd Polk Medical for care rather than going to Rome. Except for serious trauma or other specialties that wont be offered here would be the only reason to go to Rome. Either way it's more than Redmond has done with the current hospital.
