While I am pleased that Brian Campbell has been elected, I think the problems having Mr. Misetich represent residents of Rancho Palos Verdes has already begun. According to the Los Angeles County Recorder, there are "18" precincts that voters voted in, in Rancho Palos Verdes' council election. Mr. Misetich claims he walked in "30 of 37" precincts. I guess he may have walked the precincts for candidates of the Library District, too. Oh well, at least Democrats won in the N.Y. 23rd and most likely in the California 10th. Those two House seats were open due to Republicans giving them up. But it is still quite disgusting that fewer than about 21% of eligible voters bothered to vote in Rancho Palos Verdes' election.

Will Tom Long be gracious to the new Council Members or continue being his " I know Better" attitude and snub them on every issue that comes up at every Council Meeting like he does with residents that speak before the Council. I voted for Tom when he first started out on the RPV Council and it's really sad to see the negative change over the years in his behavior at meetings. Did not surprise me that the candidates he backed did not win.

Lomita's voter turnout was 46%. Your problem was you couldn't "stir the pot" enough.

Congrats to Misetich and Campbell! Now lets see if these twonewcomers will get the respect they deserve from Tom Long. In a previous thread on this topic, I was appalled by some of the statements the RPV mayor was making about Misetech. This is no way for an elected official to act.

Tom was Mayor and did'nt know simple city ordinances? WOW! Tom is a great offical; as long as he thinks he is correct(and you are confused), as long as he thinks he is smarter than you and as long as he thinks he is more successfull than you. If you like that path taken than he is your guy.

That was the quality you and I voted for.

Now hold on! One cannot talk about progressive politics and "quality" in the same breath.
"Progressives" are nothing more than re-labeled liberals. They want to limit personal freedom, redistribute wealth, and rely on govt agencies to plan everything from economics to healthcare.
That is not a "quality" position.

Liberal is a label that came about after Progressive. Progressives were the liberals (in today's sense) before the 1920s. Because of urbanization during that time, more than 50% of the population was now urban. To avoid the baggage that came with the term Progressive, the urban progressives started calling themselves Liberals. Regardless, you can change the name, but the same old crap stays the same.

The above is all fine and dandy. However, I was speaking about his actions not his affilations.

Now if Wolowimp has the courage to stand up to Long and Stern the Council might actually function and begin respecting its constituents. First order of business, can the city manager and the city attorney.

Hello Mark, As you know, the county has permanent precinct designations, of which RPV has 37. For the purposes of voting in non-even year elections, precincts are doubled up (and in this case, one was tripled up) to ensure enough polling places were adequately staffed. RPV had one polling place for each of these combined sets of precincts. This is nothing new. Anyone experienced in more than one election campaign has seen this. Please do not add controversy where there is none. Save that for Tom Long and his whiners. I'm sure they're creating some excuse why their endorsed candidates finished at the bottom. I agree wholeheartedly with the reader who stated that the first order of business should be to can both the city attorney and city manager. Both are costing the city a fortune. Neither is performing. The city attorney charges more than a million dollars a year and frequently gives not just wrong legal advice but flat-out stupid advice. As for Long and Stern, they will continue their arrogance and their lies. That is what they do. It is just very heartening that the residents see this so clearly now. And a note to Melissa the journalist -- Campbell and Misetisch were not only backed by conservatives. I am a very proud democrat and, like a lot of RPV voters, cannot stand Long or Stern or their cronies. THAT is what this vote was about.

They did not bid out to an attorney who could best handle this case. An associate in the the city attorney's office was handed this case. More in house business that is happening. I learned a lot about this info during this election. I applaud the residents of RPV who voted for changing the way the council was headed as Jeff Lewis kept saying in his campaign. For the residents who didn't vote, shame on you. I don't see Tom Long spouting out his spam now do you?

I'm waiting for Mr Long to give his "concession" speech and welcome the conservatives to the council. OK, not holding my breath.

All, I don't know if Tom will ever weigh in, but I for one, wish the two RPV City Councilmen the best of luck in tackling the challenges facing them. I hope that the folks on this discussion board will hold the new councilmen as accountable and to the same standards that they measured Stern, Long and Wolowicz with. Best regards, Jeff Lewis, Former Candidate, RPV City Council

We'll have to wait and see how things go, but after the bitter comments by Long and others toward Misetich, I would not be surprised if there is a lot of personal animosity on that council. I wonder if we'll a lot of 3-2 decisions.

I know I can count on the 3-2 votes with Tom and Doug. I watched Tom one night at a council meeting and he sat sideways in his chair the whole time, would not face forward toward the audience until he had his 2 cents of input to say, which of course it was a flippant statement at someone or some issue, and then turned away again. This posturing says to me I don't have to listen to anything or anybody. Tom has no class. He's such a weasle. May Brian, Steve, and Anthony be able to rise above the pettiness that they face in these next several years and be able to clean up the some of the messes in our city. The city right now spends to much money on consultants than when it's time to do the work they don't have the money. Hire another consultant to figure out how to tax the residents again.

Very sad to read today that John McTaggart has passed away. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. What a trooper to go through this campaign with his cancer resurfacing. He should be proud that he did come in 3rd in this election for council. We've lost a great volunteer in this city.
